Hmmm your the only one that I've heard this has happen to. I've been running mine for over two years now, will be three years this summer and no issues. Thread is also still good!
Glad that your ok!

Glad nobody hurt, but what did you run over that it punctured it? First picture shows something on the tread by the irregular slice.

Yes, I'm fine. Was only doing about 50 at the time and not much traffic. I didn't hit anything that I know of. The pic shows a piece of the steel belt from inside the tire! It basically exploded.

do you remember a pothole that you hit really hard???? maybe a bridge expansion joint, construction area?

Something must have punctured it. The part that amazes me is that you had that much tread left at 3000 miles . I had 2 metzlers and they were wore out at 4000 miles.

I got over 11,000 on each of my first two Avons. Only switched to Metzler because I had the front split issue happening. So far the Metz seem to be holding up well. I haven't been able to ride much the last year+. Hoping to change that this year....well after I get a new rear tire!

I did hit a pothole hard a long time ago. I think that is what cracked my frame.
Guess i could have run over something small in the road, but seems like the chance of it hitting up in that area of the tread is pretty low. ???

I had a hit something a few months ago that put a hole big enough to slide a pencil in it, never saw anything on the road, but I did hear the air hissing on my fender everytime the tire went under the fender, and then I felt the back end getting a little squirely. I was only doing about 20mph when it was really noticable, had about 5500 on the Metz.

Exactly how mine happened. I heard a loud POP and then the hissing.

Anyone bought a new 300 recently? What are they going for these days? Online deals going on now that you know about?

as most are aware, the blowout can occur many miles AFTER the pothole. once the pothole damages the cord of the tire, it's only a matter of time.

Or you could push them WELL past the designed millage. Always be ready for a single point of failure (tires on a motorcycle for instance) to go out on ya
