High Mileage Concerns?

Yeah, that's a problem, seeing it in person. Its on the internet. Maybe I'll just
save more money and get a lower mileage Chopper that won't or shouldn't have many issues to worry about for a long time.

I've heard about this EHC thing, I'd think with that many miles it would have gone totally bad by now or it has been replaced. What do you think?

Don´t worry... I will not disclose where I did find it :D

My thoughts? by the all the pics shown it seems to have been well looked after. I would make some more inquiries for sure though (riding style of previous owner/s, etc.) and also get someone close to that location to have a close look at it (a mechanic if possible) and test ride it.

The price is fair if the motor is in good nick! :2thumbs:

might want to take a good look at the fork tubes, they look awful dark right there above the caps.

OK, thanks for the heads up on the fork tubes. I Ride a Springer Softail now so I have no idea what that means. What does that indicate?

the lowers, on a cushion of springs and oil (with accompanying seals),go up and down the uppers. on the part of the uppers that go inside the lowers, there are (2) each teflon coated bushings that take all the abuse. these need to be changed out about every 8500/9000 miles. the seals at the top of the lowers also wear and leave minute scratches in the uppers. this is that dark area in the picture. if worn too much, will have to replace the uppers. will need to replace the seals at the same time you replace the bushings and the fluid in the lowers. there is a how-to for this in the how-to section. not so hard to do. would be worth doing to any used skoot you get just to be on the safe side.

I have 75K+ on my 2000 Vintage with 107CI - all my miles. I had to re-build mine 10,000 miles ago but it was due to dropping a lifter at 90mph in the NM desert and pumping all the oil out the tail pipe, repairing the top end only, then having the main bearing go out after a ride from AZ to FL and another from AZ to WI. I also have about 35k miles on the 6 speed Baker that I put in as an upgrade to the original 5 speed. I ride with total confidence of the reliability of the bike and the ease of getting about any big twin mechanic to work on it. I do take care of it, though. My point is that a good v-twin mechanic with Evo experience should be able to evaluate the bike for you. And, yes, a couple grand will be necessary, more than likely, and you will know the bike when you are done. If a well-built Evo Style chopper that is a pleasure to ride is what suits you, then give it the once over and make an informed decision. Then don't look back.

Slash, I found it as well, from the pics I seen it looks clean and I notice it has the upgraded s&s rocker boxs etc so it seems like it has already had some top end work. It says make an offer too so maybe you can get it for a pretty good price.

I built a custom bike with a 107 S&S motor and at 150k I rebuilt the heads. Ran it for another 60k and it still had good compression and ran great BUT.... it was built by S&S and I have heard that BD built their motors and used cheap bearings. The same with the Baker Trans so if that's true then I wouldn't touch it. My "Baker" trans has Jims cases and who knows what inside.

By the time you rebuild the motor, trans, wheels and fix anything that is worn out you could buy another second bike....

04 had S&S Rockers from the factory so its not safe to assume any work has been done unless he has receipts to prove it. A lot of people will argue the 107 was one of the best engines S&S manufactured the perfect balance of power and reliability.

My bad, I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the info. So was the tp rockers an test or something? Wonder why they used s&s in 04, then 05 and 06 use tp and go back to s&s?
