Wireplus or R.I.P

Its time to replace my EHC, so i'm just wondering which one would be the best one to get for my 05 Pitbull. I've only really heard of the WP or RIP, and im not sure if there are others out there. My question is, which one is better?

Just to be clear, you asked which one of those two. My opinion on which one of those two is better is that the RIP kit is much better. It replaces most of the wire harness with better/bigger wire and you dont have to hack the old harness up and solder in the new brain. It comes with all the connectors to snap right in to the parts of the wiring harness that it doesn't replace. And if the brain ever goes bad then you can just get the Thunderheart brain for it for about half the cost of the kit that includes harness.
If you buy a RIP kit, get it from Kaptain here;

EHC R.I.P. Kit (EHC Replacement Harness) WITH FREE SHIPPING Big Dog EHC Replacement Kit [EHCRIP] - $650.00 : Wild Steed Worx & Services, When the road is your trail

You won't find any better or faster help with any installation problems or questions you may have (even from the manufacturers of the kit).

Now that being said, there are other options other than just those two. do a search here, you will get information (and opinion) overload.

And just to make sure you actually need an EHC replacement, you can send it to the Kaptain and he will test it. $45 might save you $650. And if it does you may need that money to figure out what the real problem is (see my signature about the multi-meter).

Thanks for the info. This summer I was riding and just out of blue my bike died, like someone unhooked the battery. I coasted to the edge of the road, stopped, turned the key off then back on and it started right up and went on my way. Then a day or two latter it did the same thing again. Then I could go days with no problems. Then one of the last times I rode it did it to me 3 times within a 25 miles. I parked it for a few days, went back out to ride it and now I cant get it to start, it will crank just fine, lights are good, it just will not fire. I put my volt meter on the battery to see if I had low voltage, but I didn't, and the way it was cranking it should have lit up. So after reading some posts about bikes dying, I'm assuming this was the problem. What else should I look for before biting the bullet and buying a replacement kit?

If everything is working but it just will not fire off then you need to troubleshoot your ignition system.
Check for power to your ignition module first.
Do you have a service manual so you can trace the electrical?
If not email me at wsworx@gmail.com and I will send you a PDF version.

or it could be as simple as the key switch. check the easy stuff first. remember, if it is not the EHC and you change it but it doesn't help, that was a lot of money thrown over your shoulder and you still have to find out what the problem was/is.

Had to replace my crank sensor. Fires great now. Unless is cold.
Start button doesn't work though. When you hit it you hear the starter go "TING". And then I hit the slam button to start the bike.
Had the starter rebuilt by Wild Steed Worx and the start button worked the first 3 starts. Then dead. Sucks. Dunno what to do.

ok I noticed your post aand was wondering what ever happen to the guys bike.
I have a 04 ridgeback with a bad ecu. its starting to fail on the lighting and its time to change mine out. I don't want to hear trouble shooting ideas just is there anyone that has done there 04 ecu. also its interesting that you guys mentioned the thunderheart kit. I just got off the phone with a tech at thunderheart that says there stuff wont work with a big dog. im so confused.

The RIP kit uses a thunderheart module, and it works so.....it sounds like the guy at thunderheart was confused (probably a salesman that don't even read the literature).

I installed the wire plus unit last year and there was an instant difference in performance and all electrical issues disappeared. WP is my recommendation and the install is not that difficult with the help of all the brothers on here who are mechanics.

I didn't answer his question but I would go with the RIP system over the WP. It should be an easier install.

With that said I do have the WP and am very happy with it but the install was kind of a pain but I do think its very reliable. I bought the unit back in 2011/2012 and I feel very comfortable with it.

well I bit the bullet and bought the rip kit! just got it and going to start putting it in this weekend! wish me luck! ill give my feedback after its installed!
