Turn key on "NOTHING"

Ok... i have an 05 RB with lithium ion battery, n a pdm wiring kit, led headlight. All was running fine, then throughout the day it kept getting harder to start... figured Stator/Regulator went bad. Replace the battery with new one and the reg, went to start it to test voltage....
-turned key on and everything lit up just fine....
-one small crank of starter and everything goes out (black...nothing... no headlight/tach/signals/nothing)
.......................
Battery shows fully charged. turn key on n off/disconnect battery/..nothing


Ideas?

Ok..will do.
Update... figured out it was the 40 amp fuse by the battery. Keeps blowing. Replace it and everything comes on ok, but then when i go to hit the start button it blows within a sec... Pulled starter to see if it is locked up causing it to blow fuse

So pulled the starter.... seems ok.... shaft moves etc. Guess it could be going south, causing excess draw n popping fuse?

Iman... i guess i would like to know how the crank sensor would blow the 40 amp fuse on me? I am trying to wrap my head around this and im sick so it is frustrating the hell out of me.

What would cause the fuse to blow.... would have to be a short somewhere...correct? or like i suggested the starter is going for crap so causing excess draw?

Probably not the crank sensor. Someone will chime in hopefully soon with a little more expertise than me

it is the 40 amp fuse coming from the + side of battery, then to + block where all + wires connect.... (like a + block for multiple connections so dont have to load up terminal on battery)
Sounds very confusing and my explanation sux.....

+ terminal of battery, wire coming from that side into 40 amp fuse then wire to + Block where mulitiple + wires connect for pdm connections.

Voltage reg is not fused.... .... 2 wires from VR... one to front of bike, one to + side of the terminal block i was refering to, that is powered by 40 amp wire from the battery

If you are blowing a 40 amp fuse you have a major short. It is probably in your VR or the black wire coming from it. It runs along the frame to the battery and can be shorted out. You need a 20 amp fuse between that black wire and the Battery pos. Put one on or you will be replacing VR's all the time. Use a self resetting 20 amp on your rear fender and run it back to where ever it goes now.

Disconnect the black wire at the battery or fuse and see what happens. If the fuse doesn't blow then you will know it's from the black wire to the VR or the VR or stator (you can also check it with a test light to see if it's grounded. If it is the fuse will blow, don't waste your money on fuses)

Then disconnect the black wire from the VR and check to see if it's grounded. If it is, replace it. If not:

Then hook up the black wire both ends and disconnect the stator plug and try it. If it blows or the test light shows grounded it's the VR. If it doesn't then it's the stator. I've bought new VR's that were bad.

You have a major short somewhere.... Good luck

Check ur headlamp bulb. When both my high and low go out it will blow the fuse as you described.

I'm not really sure. My thought was that it is a safety feature that keeps you from riding with no light. And this is with a WP unit. I was told that this NOT a WP feature, so perhaps I just have mine wired wrong....?? When i take the blown bulb out completly it will start and run. As its happened to one it may happen to someone else.

It just seems to me that breaking the circuit (blown bulb) would eliminate the flow instead of blowing the fuse. I'm gonna have a few shots of Captain Morgan tonight and think about this some.I hope someone with an electrical background comes up with an answer before I start thinking :lol:

When I installed the wp on my 07 Bulldog it came with a 3 position key switch. Off, Run, and run with lights.

In all the bulbs I've seen that have done this the stand offs in the bulb that suspend the filament have bent over and fused to each other when the filament burned. Next time it happens, break the bulb and check it out.

argh.... now starter wont turn over....fml
Checking connections... changed starter and VR... frustrating.
Turn on key, everything lights up. Hit run and start...... NADA.... gonna check starter connections and board in handgrip
