Great info and will dial it in once installed.............do I need to purchase a cam cover for my 05 to install this upgrade?

Read this somewhere ................I thought the ASM 5012 is plug and play and no other add ons are required?

My understanding is that stock was less advanced timing, I am not sure of exactly how many degrees...

Can someone give us some light here, please?

Not sure what motor you have... on the 117s it is Plug & Play (swap the old one for the new one) no fucking around with any other parts.

I did touch the cam cover only to upgrade the cam from 569 to a 585 cam.

Stock module is locked in at 32 degrees BTDC. S&S manual recommends 28 to 30 for our motors so the adjustable is the way to go if you want more out of the motor I guess. :cheers:

After all that reading in here, it seemed to me 90% of the guys here are running it on #3 or #4.....

Alright, now I am starting to get confused (again) about the whole thing... so (if 32 is stock), what would be the way to get more "juice" out of the motor... advancing (34 and up) or retarding (30 or less degrees) the timing?

Here are the close settings for the Ignition if you set it out of the box by the dial on the front of the module. ( Stock compression will require 30-32 degrees of total advance.) I set mine at 4, I had tried it at 5, but went back to 4. You will need to possibly go down to 3 if you are at a higher elevation.

Setting 2 is 28 degrees
Setting 3 is 30 degrees
Setting 4 is 32 degrees
Setting 5 is 34 degrees
Setting 6 is 36 degrees

#3 or #4 is for stock compression, which #4 is the stock setting of 32, you might benefit from #3 if your at a higher elevation, I'm at 500 ft. So #2 would get more out of the motor if you had the heads decked, uping the compression, but not on stock compression.
Thats why I said I didn't think there was much difference between #3(30) and #4(32) for my style of riding. Before I got that flat tire we had been out for awhile riding and I didn't not hear the valve rattle that I experienced on setting 3.
I thought I read on here that the stock controller thru sensors is monitoring the motor. Meaning if your more than a click or two away from the factory 32 setting, you could experience problems if you sit idling in traffic like bikeweek for long periods of time.

I am going to have a play with it in all different settings... see if I can notice any difference from #1 to #6 :D

I just came across this Thread..... No, I have not had a chance to play around with it so I am still wondering about it LOL

I know there are about a dozen (or more) threads on this subject but.... none is clear.... they are just assumptions....

Is anyone out there who really knows about this subject and can explain it?
