Holy crap! I cannot believe it... Went out to my bike today to wax the tank and found my paint bubbling. I'm so freaking pissed. I switched to a landmark vented cap recently... Lower profile and supposedly doesn't swell as much... Paid for itImageUploadedByTapatalk1408892550.475559.jpg

Is this paint-saver the stock one or you installed a new one?

When I did install my new one I made sure there was a good-tight sealing with some special silicone paste.... never had any problems...

Lands end or landmark?

This is caused by a leak between paint saver and tank, not the cap typically.

I feel for you, have the same issue.

It's landmark. Never had an issue with the stock cap on under any conditions... Trailer, garage, low gas, full tank. Only now & I didn't touch the saver. I'm thoroughly disgusted. I can't seem to get ahead with the bike... So many plans, but issues keep whacking my bike budget.

I agree.... I would make sure that paint-saver and its gasket are properly sealed.

I will after I get the paint fixed. Gonna have to pull the tank and bring it to my paint guy again.., just had it there for a deep scratch... The damn paint was perfect a minute ago.

Yep, that happened to mine and boy did I do a job on it, so I'm offering no advise on this one. What do ya think Franco:bang::bang::bang::bang::lol:
I do remember!!!

Hint: Do NOT use a hammer & chisel to remove the paint-saver :D

Yeah... I had seen some bad shit on here regarding this issue. Was that your bike that had the paint bubbled really bad? I thought as long as I was using a vented cap & the original saver (unmolested) then id be ok. Guess not.

Happened to my bike twice. Found out that condensation was forming around cap that caused it. The bike gets so hot when its parked in a trailer or shed, it would heat up like this. Outside not a problem. Only when bike was parked in a trailer and would get really hot and do this. I'm in a habit now if its parked inside i will take the cap off till the bike cools down

Bringing my bike home from buying it I stopped for gas. Couldn't get the cap off for nothing. Down the block there was a Walmart where I sent the wife to get a jar/lid remover. Broke the lid remover but finally got the cap off.

Went home and took off the "paint saver" and threw it in the trash. Put a regular vented cap on and have had no problems since. A good quality cap with 2 rubber gaskets works real well.

One word of caution, if you take the paint saver off stuff a rag down the hole first because the silicone pices will fall in the tank. Ask me how I know...

Mine was epoxied in, I tried heat and then a bolt and jam nut, to no avail, then a hammer and a chisel on the paint saver, then a bigger hammer, well you can guess what happened next. A lot of coin to fix the tank.:bang:my bad:lol:
The vent was removed from the cap and the vapors would cool and liquify on the paint savor. I purchased a new cap and left the check valve on and this one works the way it should, no more vapors.

So... Stock paint saver and stock cap with white check valve... No blistering and no venting issues?

None so far and I had the tank fixed this past Feb. Prior to this happening Big Dog redid my tank and sent it back with a clicker cap and vented, however it vacuum locked and shut the bike down and the fix was to remove the valve, but then it bubbled the tank again. The clicker vented cap I have now is just a little different the the second one Big Dog sent back. The mechanic told me when I purchased this cap that there was a recall to remove the valve, but I left it on and it doesn't let vapors out and it don't vacuum lock the bike either. I think I finally found a cap that actually worked the way it should.:2thumbs:

I wonder if I should try to find an aftermarket vented cap. I just don't think the stock one would have done this. In retrospect, I think the land mark cap came down against the paint and that it may have rendered the vents in it useless. I think Basically it sealed off, and the fumes were forced between the saver and the paint... Path of least resistance. The bike is six years old and it just happened for the first time. I had very little gas in the tank BTW... Bike was on reserve. My paint guy (Chris Cruz for Floridians in the know) said that you need to keep the tank full to avoid vapor issues.

My painter pointed this out to me also and it was too close for me so I put a thicker o-ring on mine and it does keep the cap away from the paint and also I can see a small gap between the savor and cap
