Cracked swing arm

Energy One
We'll found a crack in my swing arm tonight! Now I am tearing the sled down either going to get welded or replace the swing arm. Going to do some other mods to. This sucks I am waiting for the painter to get done with my pit bull tins to get that running and now taking the 2nd bike down ? Time to buy that gold wing

Those BBC bikes are fairly well documented on cracking issues.

You just had the Pit painted - going at it again?

It sure is a bummer when you own two bikes and both are not rideable...been there and it blows as thats the rational to owning both.

Yeah the pitbull is getting painted just a plain gloss black. It was supposed to be done but I guess it must be a west coast thing when they tell you 2 weeks and don't finish until 2 months ?

Paul I'd weld it ride it till the other bike was done.
I considered doing just that but this gives me the opportunity to locate some oil leaks that I have had for awhile . I bought this bike used and it is about 8 years old. I was planning on tearing it down later anyway due to the amount of oil that is all over my garage and now is my chance.

I am thinking about filing an insurance claim on this. I know some on here didn't have any luck with their insurance covering the crack but the worst they can tell me is no!

I always liked your Big Bear Chopper!

I think they are good bikes... but like many they have their share of problems. Definately worth fixing in a way to make it stronger than before.

"OC Todd" had to get the downtub from the steering neck welded and gussett from a major frame crack (a known problem on the BBC Venon chopper). It appears to be better than before and no fear of riding it two up or long trips...

Wait to you see it again ! I am ripping it down which is making me get the Pitt up and running ! The sled will be something custom !

Having a back up bike usually keeps you on the road .
Bad timing .
Painters "artists" are the same here on the East coast
2 weeks,2 months,2 years .

<--------- Thank God for my heard .

The good news is that crack looks like it was caused by a bad weld, not bad engineering or design. It looks like it had undercut, and that’s why it broke behind the weld not in the middle of it. It is an easy fix. Just find a certified pipe welder and have him tig weld it correctly and your back on the road.

The bad news is the same welder probably welded the rest of that swingarm, maybe even the whole frame, so there may be more bad welds. So I would have your new welder look at all the other welds on the entire frame to see if they were done correctly. It just makes sense to have it all done at one time for peace of mind, and so you only have to paint once.
