LED HD Daylight iInstall issues-Help Please

I'm trying to install the Harley LED Daylight lamp, and I'm having an issue... well, two issues.

First is that the LED lamp and the bucket harness won't go together... I put a fair amount of pressure on it, but they won't connect. If you look at the lamp that came out of it, the corners are cut on an angle and the LED are not. Should I just cut down the edges to match as best as I can?

Second is that the LED set up has an extra red wire... what should I do with this? I'd hate to wind up frying my EHC due to some stupid move here.

Any help....much appreciated.

The yellow wire pin does look to be fat. I would go ahead and try grinding it down to fit like you said. The other red wire should be a ground. Atleast it's in the same position as my ground. But the position doesn't matter as long as you get the wires right. You should have a high beam wire, low beam wire, then a common ground. You can just test them with a ohm meter or test those leads directly to a battery to preserve your EHC.

I guess what I don't understand is that the existing harness works with YELLOW BLACK WHITE... One would be ground, high, and low... so why the red? Also, with nothing to connect it to, what do you do with it?

Also, how would you connect to the battery?:confused:

The red wire is for the auxiliary/parking lights which of course the BD does not provide power for so you can either shrink wrap that connection and zip tie it off to the side or figure out what the voltage requirement is and put together a simple little circuit that can provide power off the Lo or Hi beam circuit, whichever you ride the most with.

Okay...thanks.. zip tie and electrical tape it is. No harm in trading out the harley harness on the LED for one that will fit the BD is there? DO you sell a piece like that so I don't have to grind down the prongs?

Ohh sorry, small screen. ! I didnt see the black wire on that plug. Thought you only had yellow, white, and red. Thought that red may be generic there incase some ppl ground on the bucket like mine and not run wire all the way back to the brain or battery. My bad !

I test leds on a battery with clips to make sure my polarity is right before soldering / sealing everything up. Just make the connections on battery. If they don't work, switch them around.

So... thinking about the LED... I communicated with IMAN who installed the Headwinds LED. I examined his pics, and found that It looks exactly like the Harley one (probably made by JW for Harley). He said that his was just simple plug n play... he had no issues with the connection. So, I went to the Headwinds website, and then I noticed in the pic that the pins on the harness are the same as my Harley LED pins. Then, I went back to the harness and measured the pins with some calipers...they measured exactly the same as the Adjure lamp pins that came out of my shell... the Harley's look thicker, but they are not. Considering the fact that the prongs are the same width, and IMAN's had the same prongs, I figured it has to work. I went to it this morning and decided to just force it some more. I really forced it (it took far more effort then I felt comfortable with), and just as I was about to back off it popped in! Once it popped in it felt like it should be there. Hopefully it works... I think it will.

Part 2 complete... Man was that a bitch! If I were to do it again, I'd bolt the shell to the bike first... Or to something. It was extremely difficult getting the led in and lined up correctly while holding (and trying not to scratch) the shell Now I need a drink!

So I tried imbedding my picture, but it didn't work... using a Mac... maybe that's the issue :spank:

So you are saying that the HD Daymaker was plug and play and fits in the stock Big Dog headlight? And this will work with the BD EHC? If so, that is sweet. Aside from the cost of the daymaker headlight, they work fantastic. I know a number of riders who have them (many who initially scoffed at them due to the price), and they love how much light they provide at night.
