How often do you use 6th gear?

Energy One

SKOGDOG

One of the old ones.
My K9 has SIX gears??
Seriously, never shift into 5th or 6th under 2500 rpm. Just as important is not to stay in a high gear at full throttle at those lower rpm's. You need to downshift when you crank it up it to pass that RV, because since the rpm's are low and the engine can't rev up, so all that damn torque has to go somewhere. It will go right through those helical cut gears directly to the transmission bearings.....lower gears are straighter cut and provide a more direct transfer of torque and of course the lower gear allows the engine to rev up.
Doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out how I know this......:bang:

Things are much better now that I am not trying to use 6th gear. I was smelling raw gas sometimes, now not so much. Wish there was a "real" tachometer on the Dog. Hate that row of lights on the Dakota. Don't much care for the digital speedometer either.

I must be doing naughty things then.
On a flat road, my 08 K9 is happy if i click her into 6th at 60mph, anything under and she don't like me too much.
Some of the guy's i ride with on their HD thingys don't hit 6th till 70+, below that and thier bikes pop and fart like an old draft horse.
Where as the Dog just dies.
