Problems with air cleaner

I recently put a aftermarket cone air cleaner on my 05 ridgeback. It runs fine up until i hit 60, then it wants to start sputtering. Did a little research and s&s mentioned if the stock air cleaner was going to be replaced, needed to remove the auxillary bowl vent plug. Is it that simple or am I going to have to replace some of the jets as well? Has anyone else had any issues with aftermarket air cleaners? Appreciate any feedback.

Most BDM owners who have replaced the stock air cleaner removed the bowl vent plug as per install instruction that came with product and and have gone up on the main jet say from 72 to a 74. As BB Chopper says you need to tune your dog to whatever after maket stuff you have on it, ie; cam, exhaust, air cleaner and so on. Do a seach on here and find out what others have done to correct the issue you are having.

Cool. Figured that's what I needed to do, just wanted to hear it from someone else before I put time and cash into it. Threw the stock back on a bit a go just to make sure and it runs fine. Appreciate the help guys

If you do a search you will find tons of threads discussing this issue...

long story short:

- Get rid of the bowl vent plug
- place the cone into the vertical position
- tune your carb

let me know if you need the documentation where it explains it. but if you do a search you will find them as I posted them in different threads many many times

Search for "Spike Air Cleaner" :2thumbs:

I had a similar problem with my 04 Ridgeback, turned it up and got a totally different bike now. It's gotta be worth a shot?
