Looking to replace old Gas Caps

Been away for awhile and now back on this side of the pond. Went to fill up the other day and could not remove the 2 gas caps, ended up using channel locks to get them off. In the past I have used greas to coat the threads and then filed the threads down as a temporary fix. Now I am looking to replace the left and right caps or replace the complete paint saver and cap.

Anyone having success in this area please let me know what you did or replace the caps with another brand or style.

Thanks in advance,

I just sold a set of new caps. Landmark made them for Big Dog. The have the same style but with a thinner thread and the material is more resistant to ethanol. They worked real well. Roughly, $70 I think for both

OK, I'm not going to be that A Hole to tell you to do a search, even though there have been more than 5 threads and 100 posts in the last 90 days. To summarize for us, as I have absolutely nothing better to do anyway: Landmark originally used a plastic for the original threads. On this side of the pond we use as with what they call Ethanol added, which absorbs water and swells plastic. Landmark after discovering this problem has changed to vinyl to make the threads on the newer caps. This is not effected by ethanol and will not swell and no, you can not buy just the threads which they did for a couple of weeks before they found out that they could force us to buy the whole cap. They're about $45 each shipped. The contact guy at Landmark is Jamie, I think. No one else makes them and you risk your paint in swaping out the paintsavers.

Thanks for the kind words, I will give them a call.

i managed to buy just the threads from landmark before they stopped selling them. i can tell you they are really nice easy on and off nice and loss till tightened. a bit of a joy to fill it up now. the threads made by landmark are what you want not just another aftermarket cap or they will tighten up all over again.

For a quick fix till you can get new caps, this is what I did. Using a dremel tool with the fine cut off wheel I went around the threads slightly removing material until they went in easily. That was 2 years ago and it still work easily

Yank out the paint savers and use whatever cap you want. Lots of nice aftermarket Harley caps that will fit perfect without the hassle of Landmark paint savers.

That's exactly what I did, and it was a good decision. After removing the insert, I used what's called a paint saver ring, which is chrome, to protect the paint and now I can use any aftermarket HD cap.

I posted some pics on it in this thread:

Scroll about halfway down and you will see it.
