LED HEADLIGHT vs HID LIGHT

Ok, pulled my HID out and have the LED in. Going to the Redwood Run will give me many hours riding in the dark mountains and will give a full report when I get back. I had the HID in for over 6 years and loved it, hoping for more with the LED.

LED is all the rage in the dunes and easy to see why. I currently run all HID on my rail and the RZR, so Looking to see if the LED is worth making the swap off road also.

In two weeks I will give the good, the bad and the ugly as I see it.

In the meantime I am sure there are others with this LED who will chime in

Is that a two piece led kit ? I think I'll bite the bullet and order one also

It is an LED light that plugs directly into your H4 plug unless you are still running the Big Dog EHC or PDM then you need the harness also. The harness is very small and comes with mounts to mount it to the bucket.

Got mine in today, as usual outstanding service from Curtis.
This is one strange looking unit, it appears to be quality stuff, has a huge heat-sink which can only mean a need to disapate a lot of heat. One thing I see here to pick at is the plastic connector, I assume theres no/low heat on that end of the circuit. Just replaced the stock plastic connector with a ceramic one and now IM back to plastic again. Looking forward to seeing what this puppy will do though.

The new LED will not generate the heat at the H4 connector the way the halogen bulb did.
That's why it is a plastic connector. You will not have the melting issues you had with the H4 halogen bulb. I can assure you if there was a melting issue there with this new LED unit I would have put a ceramic male connector on it. The heat sink is needed as the new LED unit does not use near the power the Halogen bulb used. Unfortunately that power still has to be dissipated and that is what the heat sink is for.
In our testing we found the heat sink never gets above 180F. This is not hot enough to melt anything in the bucket and with the bucket being aluminum it readily dissipates the heat.

I still have the original bulb in my 06 ridgeback. I wouldn't mind trying the LED"s though.
I've never done any work on my lights. I'm currently installing the RIP system. Would I have to purchase an extra harness for the RIP?

Nice want to pick up these and I'll hock the HID kit on EBAY I picked up awhile back and never installed.

This looks like the way to go and less work.

Curtis...I have the PDM kit so I would need the harness to run the LED light. Do you have a picture of the harness and how does it mount to the bucket?

Just installed mine last weekend Curtis does it right everything came pre wired so all I had to do was plug it in. Works great Thanks again for another fine product WSW

Thanks firedog, much appreciated.

Just an update for everyone. I have plenty of LED lights in stock for those bikes without the BD EHC or PDM kits. However, I am leaving for Redwood this Tuesday and will not be back until Tuesday of the following week. I have no harnesses available right now for the BDs with PDMs and EHCs. I will be building more as soon as I get back.

Mickeetwo, I will try to get the instructions up on my site later today as there are pics in the instructions. Its a simple, clean installation as firedog stated and all the parts you need are included with the harness purchase.
