That o-ring is not a big deal..clean it an put it back in..If you have a manual, study it and take your time(primary bolt patterns, torques ect,ect )...Ive been though this..hell I think most of us have been though this LOL!

Oh ya, The clutch hub nuts were NOT heat treated..I do believe the shafts were..But I dont think that Baker would bullshit me for 8 bucks.. Just trying to help here :)

Ok drained primary was full of mettle. Not good. Pulled cover I found the nut lose and looked like it had shaved the back of the nut a little. Cleaned it up lock tighted it and torqued it to 125. Back together and refilled her. Still have noise ugh. Not as bad now at idel but still have ratchet noise on shut down.

Your camera is at the air box. Are we now saying the top end is ratcheting?

Are you hearing the noise in the top end now? How about getting closer to the noise with the camera.... Wherever that is?

Do we have a compression release off the valve? I'm shooting darts. Where we at? At the top end or at the starter pawls? Valves give off a ratchet/clatter.

What is compression, though the engine sounds pretty good. I'd get it out of the way so as not to tear the top end down [if] there [is] a valve to compression release mechanism?

1. Starter pawl not away from flywheel gear?
2. Valves have a com-release?
3. Choke plate flutter but not in the way because it idles well, or say a broken choke spring, unless this is pre-FI or they use a choke plate for starting?

Sure sounds like what you said in the beginning. Starter pawl sounds like it is not away from flywheel, but is constantly engaged. Why? On shut off, it has that one way drive spin still in momentum.

There's a clearance problem and that should be easy to see who is hitting. Since it is constantly rubbing while running and on stopping (obviously), inspect that area for touch-wear.

Take a mirror behind the primary chain and see how much damage is off the link or the pin? That chain may become the weak link if it's that torn up. Whatever it's hitting on the other side, at least you caught it now.

Expert I'm not. The other posters were closer. I was picking at straws. Keep the [in-hindsight] going you mean? From valve tick, to carb flutter, to starter pawl, I don't know about chews, but that 'ratchet' of the chain link(s) chewed my ass up. It is now in my back pocket however.

Anyway, here is the deal. I am JoeAnal when it comes to chains/belts. Why? Wear pattern change. Tire sprocket tooth to chain link; cam sprocket to crank tooth; clutch basket tooth to primary chain. You see how many wear patterns change you remove anything with a link and tooth? Especially virgin tooth to links. You have control of less wear/noise when she was never touched.

1. 4x4 Suburbans use a hy-vo chain in their transfer cases. Takes one C-clip to shatter off a main shaft [moves ever so slight] and the gears go sliding into each other. It sounds like this video but louder and more robust in the bellow of the case.
2. I had my share of these coming in for warranty and I would tear them down and assemble them back together, no come-backs.
3. Dealer gets a bulletin, engineers come back saying, 'mark tooth to link when disassembly and assemble matching markings back together, we are getting humming complaints under the floorboards and no one has run over a whore, so stop the "humming," stupid.'

I would also suggest you check the bolts on the back of the clutch basket while your in there. A couple of mine came loose on my 08 Mastiff and shaved my inner primary. You cant see it till you pull the clutch or get an inspection mirror and light but you can hear it and this sounds like that could be happening also.
