Rear jug/Rear exhaust popping

Can someone point me in the right direction on this one? When decelerating or when revving then when the throttle is released there are flames coming out of the exhaust for the rear jug only. This seems to be the cause of the decel popping. I don't believe an intake leak will cause this. 585 cam. Thunderheart programmable ignition set at 32 degrees (position 4). D&M spike pointed up. 33 80 jets with a Yost tube. Bike starts rough cold with a 32 jet. Runs fine with a 33.

Will retarding the timing on the rear jug solve this?

start on the basics... leaks!

make sure your exhaust is firmly attached... check the bolts are tight and maybe new gaskets?

also got to remember the rear jug is always hotter so if you are running a little rich, there will be more popping from the rear because the exhaust pipe is hotter and igniting the unburned fuel more.

 WOW, I think I have a little more shit on my dog (Wood 650, ported and polished head, 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust, heads decked 0.030 and 0.010 base gaskets with 0.030 head gaskets and I only run a 32/78 with a XXX "TAZ" w/dual Thunder Jets. The timing is at position "D" which I change depending on the hot or cooler weather.

I would go to a 32/78 and work your way down and not up. The bike may run rough at start up but that is OK. Mine sounds like a funny car  but bad ass when it warms up. Keep in mind that this adjustments should be made at normal operation temp. The bike may run good a little rich on the bottom end, but not to good for quick acceleration with out downshifting in most cased and a lot of popping on decel. That is my :zz2cents: everyone does thing different. :2thumbs:

First thing I'd do is replace the exhaust gasket, not good to have flames coming out between your legs. I have 32 and 78, also TH on "C"or 3, dual runner and 585, and BR pipes w/baffles

Yep - I don't think anyone is running a 33 int jet. Your plugs must be solid black.....

Mine used to pop all the time and even after getting it re-jetted....went back tot he start point and put in new exhaust gaskets and the popping has stopped.
