Ticking sounds from the transmission

Hoping y'all can point me in the right direction on this one. My 2005 Chopper has started to make a ticking sound, and it appears to be coming from the transmission. Have any of you experienced this issue in the past? If so, please feel free to detail any possibly causes. Timing couldn't be worse, what with the arrival of nice weather and all, having rode all winter as long as there was no snow on the ground. Praying for a quick fix, but I don't want to go tearing into shit blindly, I like having a game plan. Any info appreciated!

first of all, get a poor mans stethoscope (a long screwdriver with the butt end against the bone behind the ear) and try to hone in on the exact location of the ticking. no need trying to fix something that ain't broke. good luck.

Kellen, I had this happen to me on my 05 Chopper. I opened up the cover and also drained my transmission and found chunks of bearrings in my tranny. I had it rebuilt by someone out here and took care of the problem. Good thing is you have Andrew (bigdogtech1) who lives in New York but he's out of town. Try to PM him or go to his facebook page (Barnes performance cycles) to contact him. He has a very good price on re-builds. That's if the noise is coming from your tranny. The bearings will be about a 1/4 inch long maybe a little less and the thickness of pencil lead. Drain your tranny and take the trans cover off and use a pecil magnet to see if you find the chunks of metal.

Poor man's stethoscope confirmed the suspicion, transmission it is.
