Long ride ended with a problem.

I decided to bring my Dog back home to Lawrence Kansas, from NW Arkansas today. It went most of the 230 miles without a problem, but as I was about a 1/4 mile from home my front brake started to make a clunking noise when applied, and basically wasn't working, but I was able to get it home. Upon inspection after getting home I discovered that I had lost not only one, but both bolts that attached the caliper to the fork. Could someone here tell me what type of bolts I need to replace these that are missing? It's on a 02 Husky.

That could have ended ugly.
That was my thought as well. Once I pulled into the drive, I tried to push the bike backwards and it wouldn't move. The caliper had jammed between the fork and the brake disk. Could have been a real problem at 75MPH. Glad this happened 1/4 mile from home and not in the middle of nowhere Missouri.

I couldn't tell by the pic, did the bolts shear off or fall off.
They were just missing. I suspect one may have fallen a while back, and the caliper was being held in place by the remaining bolt, right up to the point where it fell out. I also suspect the person to work on the brakes didn't get these bolts in very tight. The bike never showed any signs of a problem until today, then all of a sudden the front brakes were basically gone.

Mav, I'd go over every nut and bolt on that bike... Just to make sure. Start from the bottom of the front forks and work all the way back to the rear axle.

Already had that same thought, and will be doing just that.

WOW you are lucky that could have been your worst nightmare. You might be able to get those bolts at the Local Harley If not BoltDepot.com should have what you need. Use lots of RED Loctite and let it sit overnight before taking it for a spin. :2thumbs:

I have found so many loose bolts on my bike I can't count, so I just check everything on a regular basis.

Had the same thing happen. Rolling about 70 and "BAM"!! Pulled over and found the bottom screw had backed out and gotten smacked by the rotor! I rode the 5 miles home very carefully. Always gotta check bolts even if they've been hit with Loctite.
