I'm always paranoid about posting on public forums for fear of asking something stupid - so I will apologize in advance if that is the case.

Picked up my BG Friday. Runs great. Guy at the store didn't think the electrical issues I've heard so much about were applicable to a 2007 K9. Did some internet research and I can't find anything either.. .. just curious if I should be weary about electrical drama? Maybe I just suck at searching forums but everything I have seen so far has been specific to other years and/or models. Can anyone confirm?

I have 2006 K9 about 39000 and no problems. I think most are OK, you only hear about the ones with problems. There are a lot of big dogs that are fine, a fair amount of people who have put a different system on, did so just because.

I had two problems with my '07 K-9 in 5 years:

1. Dead battery (it was the original battery and was over 3 years old at the time), replaced it.

2. And an EHC wire broke at the battery terminal while riding. Busted out the Leatherman, stripped and reattached it... good to go until I got home to fix it permanently!

My 07 gave me fits for awhile :clutch hub nut was at the top of the list...It already had the PDM kit installed..no problems with that (knock on wood)...

I have a 2007 K-9 and really like it, but I have had most to the forum mentioned mechanical and electrical issues. I believe the ultimate demise of Big Dog Motorcycles is due impart to the unreliabilty of the brand. A few guys have logged a lot of miles without issue. I was hoping to be one of them.

A Wire Plus kit fixed the EHC issues.

A Baker Open Belt Primary fixed the oil leak into the starter motor issue.

A Medallion Speedometer fixed the impossible to read stock speedometer.

A Thunder Heart ignition module fixed the tach signal and allows you to turn up the ignition advance 4 degrees to get the S&S 117 running smooth.

The BDM folding license plate bracket keeps you from busting your chin when you walk around the bike.

10w fork oil in the front and full travel setting for the rear improves the ride a lot.

Despite the electronic compression release valves, when the engine is up against a compression stroke, it's difficult to turn over. Keep a Battery Tender attached to the battery when to in use.

I have a 2003 BDM Chopper with the original electronics and never had a problem. I think "Bruce" has it right in this thread -- you only hear about the defective ones -- there are plenty out there that are solid.

BTW, Bruce, is that your hand in the pic?
