03 Pit wont turn over....

Its getting warmer, and i decided to start up the dog..... Brand new battery fully charged....new 93 gas .....tried to start.....bike tries to turn, but it seems like its having a hard time turning the primary belt. Almost like the primary, or ring is seized or something. Or like it doesnt have enough power to turn over. ....but the battery is new, and charged. Very weird, never had a problem like this before. Any ideas? Also....i havnt touched the bike in about 6 months.

R U sure? check it again. New does not mean FULLY charged......

i tired to hit the slam button on the starter....but that button wont even push in..... what do u recomend? i bought the battery about 6 months ago, and barley used it. my digital tender says battery is charged full. idk. is there any reason why the battery would be dead after being on the tender all this time?

I tried starting it for about 10 minutes.....then put it back on tender. Now its seems it was drained...and the tender is charging battery. Why would the Battery be dead after always being on tender? i dont get it. 500cca Tomokio

How old are the spark plugs? I had this problem with my dog over the winter and a new battery cranked her right up. But if it's not starting with a new battery AND it's turning over, perhaps it's not getting fire or there is a carburetor issue.

i get the bike tuned up every year..new everything. plugs are about 8 months old

if it turns out that the battery is dead.....that means those Tomokio batterys are total Garbage. Because its only 6 months old....and its been on Tender. My harley battery lasted almost 2 years

Sounds like the Batt to me, several threads on new batteries that are bad from the get go. What is the CCA on that batt?

500 cca. this battery was praised by many members on here...thats why i bought it. I just got the bike started, it was the battery...... !!! wtf?? I had the battery on a tender,....how the hell was it dead? I dont understand this. Anyone have any ideas on why the battery would be completly dead ? all the while being on a tender. I let it charge for about 30 minutes again...and it started right up. this is weird

What charger are you using. It might have cut out and you reset it by hooking it back up????

no...its been connected to battery for months now...on......never shut off.....it charged the battery, and kept it on 'maintain' I have the schienter tender. bought from walmart...works great on all my vehicles....cant understand why batteyr was dead...but now its charged.

If your slam button would not even push in, I would start with the starter solenoid. If I were you, I would get my starter rebuilt by Curtis if it is a starter issue.

Not sure if what you have is an AGM battery (absorbed glass matt), but the AGM batteries have different charging needs, not too slow, not too fast. I think minimum charging rate is 2 amps (and max is 10 but I'm going off memory), so if the charger you have is a trickle charger (one that puts out less than 2 amps when battery is charged) then that could explain it.

I'm no genius with batteries, but if my memory serves me, the CCA is determined by the surface area of the plates. To get that much on small battery, the plates must be very "wavy" and thus close each other. There is a reason why most are around 310, and those tend to last longest.
Also if the battery just stands on tender extended time, it can go bad. I had my new 430 CCA battery standing on tender most part of the year when I had shoulder problem. Battery lasted a week and about 500 miles before it short circuited. Now I have cheap 310 and I expect it to last 4 years, like the previous one.

I may be wrong though, I often am.

You ain´t wrong.... Batteries go bad when not in use.. (even if on tender) ... they are just that... Batteries! :up:

i had my starter rebuilt already. I actually just got the slam button to work again. Seems because the bike sat all winter long without being touched....it needed to be tapped with a hammer lightly. It works no problem now.
