Lower Triple Tree Play

Rebuilding my forks and came across what seems to be excessive play in the lower triple tree. Curious if there is a limit or not? Im planning on replacing the neck bearings anyways just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks!

Yeah...I figured the races would be worn pretty bad too. Just surprised at how much play there is.

Check your neck cups for cracks as well. I found mine cracked all the way thru!!

Started as a simple WP job and it spun outta control. Tore the entire bike down and rebuilt it. I found the cracked cup when I went to pull them out for powdercoat.

There's a threaded nut on the bottom of that tree. I think it's called a shaft cap. You have to tighten that. It's what you use to adjust fall away. There should be a locking nut that screws in to it to keep it from backing out. I bet when you hit a hard bump you heard a clunking sound from the front end. Can't really tell there was separation because the fork tube pinch bolts held it closed. Once you took the forks off it separated.

John is right...there's way too much play in that front end to be a bearing/race problem.
Your fork stem is loose. I'm not saying you don't need to replace your neck bearings...typically they need replaced between 10-20K on the K-9's/Ridgebacks. I don't recall if the 07 K9's had neck cups or not...the later models didn't. (I think) The cracked neck cups are typically found on the rigid models on the bottom cup facing toward the back of the bike. I think once you rebuild your front end, and set the fall-away/neck bearing pre-load properly, you will be ok. Cajones Parts

Thanks for the replies guys. I already have the neck bearings and races on hand so they will be replaced since I have it tore down. Now I need to find part #'s for the front and rear wheel spacers.

Thanks for the response. I actually noticed the play after lifting on the forks, right before I took the tire off.

Instead of replacing the spacers, why not just turn them 180, so the groove from the seal is on the other end for now. Then replace when a groove appears on the next tire change.

MY spacers looked the same with only 3000 miles so I flipped them. Also looking for new ones at next tire change.
I did talk to bigdogpartsking about new ones but they wern't organized yet. If you measure them they can match them up for you. Let me know what you find because I would like to order a pair also.

I just ordered some front spacers on eBay that matched my dimensions perfect. Unfortunately they were only sold as a set of 10 so I will definitely have some left over. Let me know what your dimensions are and I'll see if they will work. My rear spacers were still good so saved a few bucks....for once...lol.
