WOO WHOO I talked my wife into letting me bring the dog in the house and out of this cold weather/garage. I am installing rocker box gaskets (and other assorted gaskets) and tappets (Thanks Andrew!). It feels like I've read every thread on this (all 800 of them) at least twice. And I think I've got it just please let me know I've got it straight.

I've got the two awesome sticky'd pushrod adjustment and rocker removal threads printed out. I am installing tappets WITHOUT limiters.

My understanding is basically when adjusting the pushrods I can do one cylinder (both pushrods) at the same time IF I'm on the compression stroke for that cylinder, meaning both pushrods are at their lowest (closest to the cam) point in their travel. I unscrew or extend them until I get zero lash (finger adjust only).

Then unscrew/extend another 4 turns (thus opening the valves a little).

HERE IS WHERE I NEED verification so I get that warm fuzzy feeling. Basically at this point I expect to be done and adjusted to about the middle of the tappet. After the bleed down time my check to see that I can now easily spin the pushrod is just a verification? Just to make sure it's bled down and the valve is seating entirely? so I'm basically leaving it at this point just unscrewing a bit to make sure it's free and then put it back where it was after bleed down...IF it's tight I probably need to start over and probably log back into the forum and talk to you all :D

sounds to me like you are following in franco's footsteps and heading toward a bent pushrod. if i am right, it is only one pushrod at a time at TDC. been awhile since i've adjusted mine so somebody with a little more experience can tell you better.

YES!!! No, Don´t do both at the time!!!!! Ask me how I know!!! :bang:

The best way is, when rear exhaust totally open (up) do the front exhaust and work that way around the four pushrods... one at the time! wait for each one to bleed down before doing the next one!!

ok 1 pushrod at a time, but the post bleed down check then is just a check? ... and you guys are awesome. 3 replies in about 5 min, Thank you.

After the bleed down the pushrod should spin freely with your fingers, once its done just lock the nuts and go to the next one. 15 mins for the bleed down.

Right on. I think I'm ready to go. Thanks guys! ...sorry about bringing the count of pushrod adjustment threads up to 801.

Let us know the outcome!!! Remember if you feel something is not right, just do it all over again, don´t rush it.

So got the first jug done last night....as far as getting all my gaskets, o-rings, and tappets installed...going to get the back cylinder done tonight then should just have to do the adjustment and be ready to rock....and around 20k miles ago (before I bought it) a .600 cam was installed (can't remember which, but I can find in my list of receipts) so I was curious what valve springs I had....here's what I found last night. I see a red mark, but weren't the factory red springs just double springs? Mine are triple? If that's aftermarket does that mean those springs are good for about .640? I don't intend to change the cam unless I'm forced to anyway just like to know what I've got and make note of it in my manual.

If they're triple, with a red stripe, they're good for .650" lift cams. Just watch the retainers. They sometimes crack between the holes. :bang:
