assistance please

Ok, I have a Wire Plus and had no issues for over 5 years.
Now at random times its like you turn the key off. i mean nothing works.
So far recycle the ignition and it will start back up with no problem.

I pulled everything loose while the key was on and started tracing wires
to check connections. Pulled and messed with everything. Unplugged and
plugged back in and could not duplicate issue.
THEN
when i was not even touching the dang thing the power shut off and then came back on imdediately.
Messed with stuff again and could not get it to happen..
QUESTION:
so if it is one of the 2 modules going bad with the Wire Plus, which one is it???
the POWER module or the SWITCH module?

And it's not the keyswitch, or loose wires at the keyswitch?

It really depends on what the issue is. Either module could be bad..do you have lights or do you loose everything when the bike cuts off?



The power module also supplies power to the Thunderheart and the switch module. This is via Plug #3 Red Wire. Runs from Plug #1 - 8th slot (Red Wire) to switch module, to the thunderheart. Check that guy....

everything shuts off like turning the key off..
for sure it is not the switch..
the first time it occured it was in my garage and recycling the ignition did not work
i tried jumping the wires to bypass the switch and still nothing. and then it just started
working..now it wont stay off long enough to do anymore diagnoses.

The most common part to fail is the Switch controller (black box)
WP will claim they have a new updated one to sell you and has no issues, but pretty sure it's the same as what you already have. Can you see any raised spots on the potting? Like something was getting hot inside that black box?

Its sounds like the same type of problem BD was having
WP pots the micro breakers and every manufacturers spec page I have read on the micro breakers states they are not to be potted. They need room to expand and contract, due to the heat, and air flow to help disparate the heat.

Now the interesting part is since you went WP and cut up your harness, you are kind of stuck with the WP unit. Unless you start all over again. I love the look of the stock BD switches, but I would probably rewire completly with Harley controls if I was to do it again. The prices on the switchboards have gone through the roof lately, left hand switches are going for $60-70 now. I bought a couple when they were $30 to have as spares as you can turn a left into a right if absouletly needed.

Curt, you are building one which I assume will be a direct plug-in with the stock harness? I believe that is all DOC came out with as well, although we haven't had any reviews on it?

A friend of mine said this exact same thing when he was looking at the wire plus with me last summer. He said, "that's your problem right there!! These things are designed to fail, and no way will they put up with the environments these Big dogs put them in." He being an electronics technician/engineer, I believed what he was telling me was true, and since then have seen many fail in the same way. Junk!!!

The black box "switch module" does in fact have what looks like bubbles that burst and
was like that when new.. it lasted a lot longer that my EHC. went through 5 of them in 2
years. this one lastetd over 5.

The only switches I use on the handlebars are the START, AND HIGH LOW.
those can be moved easily but would have no idea how to bypasse the rest of it..
I saw I can purchase the part for $236.00. I just hope its the part that is failing.

i have no turn signals
no horn
I can rewire the start and high/low easy enough. just not the rest without some sort of
diagram to follow like i did with the Wire Plus.

If you contact wire plus they will test your module.

Here is the module, just make sure if you order one, it's for the LED lights, not bulb type lights. Thunder Heart Quality Products
You will also need this switch module Thunder Heart Quality Products
They do not have a wiring schematic for the Big dog, and I do not have one either other than some notes I took down while hooking them up.
