Spedo not working

I am having trouble with my speedometer. It is still the original. It cycles on power up, but nothing after that. Will not move off of zero. How do I check the speed pickup vs the speedo its self? Have already checked the wiring connections and I do have a good hot battery. I have tried to read continuity and voltage across the magnetic pickup, but I do not really know what I should see.
Should I just buy a new pickup and replace the speedometer?

Don't waste another minute......throw that POS away and get a Dakota Digital from Valueteck Don aka maddog a vendor on this site. :2thumbs:

Cool. I pulled and cleaned the speed pickup on top of the trans. It looks good. No physical damage. I really don't see any reason that it would go bad. No moving parts and no signs of any impact. Wiring and connection are good. Still no response.
I think that I will pull the spedo off and just look at it while I am waiting on the new one to ship.

try to wiggle /move the wires going into the sensor in top of the transmission. (very small gray wire going into the flat sensor) thats my problem. *Note you have to do it with the bike off then restart it and try to toggle from the trip to the miles if it does that it will work when you ride, good thing is it wont put any more miles on your speed-O
