starter wire question

I have a 2003 bigdog chopper have had the bike 5 yrs now and had shitloads of trouble since day one but for whatever reason when the things are fixed and im riding the issues seem to disappear I love my chop and to me the chopper craze will never end so I decided last year to buy a backup ride and rewire my chop with old style relay setup from scooters and I got to ride around 1000 trouble free miles before the old man winter sabatoged my fun
well its warmed up so I took the tender off my bike it turned over 2 times slowly but no start.
I figure its time for a new battery since the drag specialty one is pushing 2.5 yrs
I hear a lot of good about the braille so will probly be ordering one of those soon
I pulled my battery connections wer tight I cleaned them and tightened them then I usually follow them the ground anyways take the other end loose and clean and tighten

my question is this rhe positive cable runs to the starter then there is another wire from the starter to the silanoid that is dry rotted to hell its about 3-4 inches long and looks about the size of the battery cable can someone lead me in the direction to order this piece what its called and maybe how to replace it
do I have to pull the starter and silanoid or not the battery cables look great for their age but this one looks horrible and seeing the copper cannot be a good thing
any help would be appreciated

I plan to do this myself if possible while replacing my battery

The wire you are reffering to I think is part of the starter. It is very common for the wire insulation to deteriorate.

What I did was unbolt it from the solenoid and then slid over a piece of shrink wrap and then heated and shrunk it into place.

This should not be a functional issue.

Ok ill give it a try just figured if I knew what its called may be able to order one while I am waiting on my battery just didnt lije the idea of it deteriorating I figure it will short or break at least convenient time if I cant find one I will try heat shrinking it

You want to replace the "Starter Motor Lead Grommet"

looks like one end is relatively easy to get to anyone changed this part and
do I have to pull starter
is that just the grommets or can I gwt the whole setup cable grommets and all

If your referring to the cable that is covered with the starter motor lead grommet that is electro welded to the field coil. You must remove the starter and pull the starter motor case to remove the field coil.
You might want to consider just having Wild Steed Worx rebuild your starter.

The liquid tape works good. I used black silicone on mine, working just fine.
While your at it, pull the 3 little screws out of the solenoid, remove the cover, and clean the copper contacts. this will help with the starting also.
