WOW!! I took the restrictor plates out of the manifold and machined them out so the matched the intake. I reinstalled them with new gaskets. I also put on a new XXX Super E carb, and wow. My Mastiff runs and sounds so much better. I can now break the rear tire loose shifting through 3rd gear. Before, the bike pulled okay, but now it feels like it wants to pull the front off the ground. If anyone has a 05, pull those restrictors and either buy the replacement spacers, or get yours machined. Huge difference!!

Sweet...The removal of the restrictors and adding the XXX super "E" mod really makes the bike pull hard! Made a huge difference on my bike. Glad you are happy too!

Glad your happy with the outcome.

I removed mine before picking up the bike new. Actually we installed a G carb kit before picking it up which eliminated the plates. Sure wish motorcycle manufactures were exempt from all the EPA regs.

You could have just pulled them...but you get a gold star for machining them out! Nice Sierra too!
I thought Ray said you have to replace them with some spacer to account for the difference in thickness.

restricter plate

Did any one have to re-jet after taking out the plates? And here's a dumb question ... where are the plates? I have an 05 Ridgeback and I'm tempted to take out the plates and have the xxx carb mod done. Thanks

You have to replace them with something, otherwise the manifold will sit closer inwards, and when you try to tighten it down to the cyclinders, it will not seat correctly because of the lack of proper alignment. You will get leaks overtime. If you install a Super G carb you must use a pre 04 or a 06 and newer stock manifold.

I am running stock jetting, you should not need to rejet if you just remove the restrictor plates.

You should do this. The hole in the restrictor is about 1.125" and the hole in the manifold is about 1.75". It only took me 20 minutes to get them out, 15 minutes to machine them, and 15 minutes to get it all back together. You will love the difference.

And a added bonus-my pipes are louder!

It will lean out, but much. Big Dogs come a little rich from the factory. They are jetted to be a little rich at sea level, so if you are higher then sea level, you are richer anyways.

What is the altitude you ride at?

I would remove the restrictors, and ride it to see how if feels and sounds. My stock main jet was a .068. You could throw in a .072 if you think it is a little lean.

Lee...
It is my understanding that since the restrictor plates are between the carb and the heads, they restrict everything (air fuel mixture) not just air. I don't think you would have to re-jet after removing them...you should just get more of everything.

That makes sense.

where are thou?

Ok ... I called the dealer where I bought my 05 Ridgeback and the service guy says that on the 05's there are no plates. I guess the only way to tell is to pull the carb off ... but to those of you that have "done it" ... are the plates between the intake and the motor or between the intake and the carb or between the carb and the air cleaner? ... I just have to take the darn thing off I guess to be sure ... I don't want to machine it down ... I heard of someone taking them off and then rode 1000' up and it ran line crap so he had to put the plate back on. So if I machine it down and it doesn't work .. I'll looking for a new restrictor plate .... thanks for any info on this
