If you go with the muit you'll need mostly 18 gauge wire as per m unit instructions you can go online and google motogadget munit and download the manual.

I did look at the post but didn't see how to wire up rear turn/brake lights from the M-unit? ….
The easiest way is to use a utility trailer wiring converter, you can get them at the local auto parts store or Amazon has them for around $20. I think they call it a European wiring converter. Whatever it’s called it changes 5 wire in to 4 wires out and basically combines the turn light and brake.

The Hopkins 48845 looks smaller that some others.

I wonder if you're having the problem with the harness under the fuel tank like everyone used to have. Might be worth pulling the tank and have a look.

Tank has been off at least 3 times. Once for the backbone harness replacement and twice for touble shooting. I believe tach ring is shorted to speedo housing somewhere? The ground wire coming back reads 1.1 ohms to the frame.

Take your leads on your ohmmeter and touch em together. That is what I would think the ground wire should read to the frame. Sounds like you may have a bad ground.
