WHAT IS AND WHAT IT DOES ?

Guys,

Excuse my ignorance but I would like to know what is it and what is it for?

Today I just noticed that last time I hooked up the battery (a week ago) I left a red wire unhooked from the battery... :bang: I hooked it on again just now and went for a ride..... I have NOT noticed any changes on the bike´s behavior

The wire is the one that goes from the Positive battery post, through that big 40 fuse and to that RED THING attached to the battery box, from which there is one more wire that goes somewhere?

What is that RED THING and what it does? Could I have done some damge for riding without it hooked up to the Battery?

Nope! my Battery Tender wires have nothing to do with this.

According to the 06 manual that is connected to A3 on the EHC and A3 is unused.

Apparently, just reading on the 05 Manual it is the Circuit Braker!!!

According to the 06 manual that is connected to A3 on the EHC and A3 is unused.

On the wiring diagram I have A3 is the main power from the battery to the EHC.

Yeah and if you look to the right of that you will see A3 Unused

That large breaker protects the system from the VR going bonkers and frying the rest of your electrical system

Well, it definitely is NOT a Breaker!!! it has no reset button and the two wires are connected together (there is one prong only) the only thing it can "break" is the fuse! It actually looks like somebody got rid of the CB and installed that "thing" to join the two wires together leaving the FUSE to do all the job by itself!

I had a look at pics of breakers on the Dogs and I´ve nothing like that to be seen anywhere!!!

Ah, I see the confusion...

A-3 is the main power to the EHC from the battery and A3 is the connection you're talking about but there's no wire connected to it.

That's one way to do it!

I had a look at pics of breakers on the Dogs and I´ve nothing like that to be seen anywhere!!!

If you've got a fuse instead of a circuit breaker your electrical system is still protected from a run away VR... no worries! :2thumbs:

BD had a recall on the original breaker and replaced them with the 40amp fuse.
The post you see now is just a dummy post as they didn't want to do a bunch of rewiring to fix the issue.

Just my 2 cents Franco but until you read the electrical section of the manual front to back a few times I would just leave everything alone.
I'm not saying your stupid or ignorant or blah blah blah. I'm just saying it serves dramatically to know the system well before tampering with it.

I looked at my 07 manual and the 40 amp fuse is to the VR. So if you were out for a ride you were running on the battery only and prolly not charging back up. Good thing it wasn't a long ride.

It makes sense now after reading all your comments! I was worried about no having a braker, but if this set up alone does the job, I am happy

Curtis, don´t forget to put a couple of those fuses in my box! still adding items to my shopping cart
