Changed out to 585 cam wow what a difference. Seat of the pants torque is much better. Went on a 200 mile ride through upstate sc (lots of hills and twistys). I need to weeks Carb but I am very happy with result. Anyone around Greenville area and want to change yours you supply parts and beer I'll supply labor to change for you.

Are you getting noise on the decel? I do. A mechanic looked at it and said that is how it is supposed to work. If he were to eliminate the noise it would impact performance. So he said if you want the cam to perform as intended there will be some noise due to excess fuel being pumped in. Does this make sense?

Rejet the carb if your getting popping or back firing on decel. I just changed my cam to a .585, JP cycles has the jet kit for $45. I only jumped my inter. and main by .002 because the dealer had increased them already when they installed the pipes. I ended up with 33 and 78 for the jets and theres no popping on decel. Adjust the carb to S&S instrustions and you should be good.
I say your mechanic is wrong, its running lean, unless you had it on a dyno and checked your air/fuel ratio.

Nice offer Plong....wish I lived closer. I've wanted to go with the 585 cam, but I have the TP rocker boxes and need to replace them also. I have the 569 cam and was wondering if there was going to be much of a difference moving up to a 585

Likewise on the upgrade to 585, I have been very happy with the new cam, and not a lot of money or downtime of the bike either.

Every bike is a little different. Intake style, exhaust set up, altitude but a lot of us that went to the 585 are in the 33/76 range on the jets. If yours is stock it's probably 29.5/74?:whoop:

After reading the positive posts on installing a 585 cam I pulled the plug and had it done. Satisfied wouldnt be the right word! Much faster. Especially from 3k rpms to redline. A different beast entirely. Reminds me of driving my old 1986 Ninja back in the day.

upgrade the ignition and it will pull like mad
:eek:Shed some light on this for me, I don't understand how upgrading the ignition would make any significant difference. There's only 2 cylinders and either they get spark or not, does a bigger or faster spark make it explode differently in the combustion stroke?
I'm not dumb, but close to stupid:lol: on this subject

BTW, I did buy it from TH directly and asked them to send it to me with the right plugs for my K9. It was a simple Plug & Play. 10 minutes job.

Ker, the stock ignition is set at 32 degrees BTDC. S&S recommends 28 or 30. The adjustable ignition allows you to change this
