05 BD Chopper 117 S&S Starter Issue

Hi ya'll, new member here :D , scooter was starting and running fine yesterday eve. , have had speedo issues for awhile now, just an fyi. However, ther dang thing wouldn't do anything this AM except click 1 time. Serviced bike to include plugs and replaced battery 2 weeks ago, battery is showing full charge, had battery tender on it then used regular charger, battery is hot. I'd read a fdew forums about cleaning the copper ring in the solenoid, so cleaned it up real nice. Still clicks only once. ie,,, not clicking multiple times. Giving me fits, to say the least. Anyone have a clue ?????

did you check ALL the battery connections, including both ends of the ground wires? vibration does wonders with these bikes.

I had the same with my 05 DT Chopper. It was a small negative wire came off battery. Put it back and she started right up. My 2 cents.

Kurt, I'm going to triple check all my connections this AM, my sled is also the DT chopper, maybe I overlooked the small wires.

Tom, I don't have the push start cap, after I triple check all my connections I planned on doing a bit of testing with some 4ga jumper wires, read Moes (moespeed) post in detail and saved Raywoods pdf on the starter system out of the manual. The only question I have now is, if it starts after jumping across the large positive post, where do I go from there ?, if it doesn't start this way I'll pull the cap and push the starter plunger in, if this doesn't work I reckon it's time to send the starter off.

Ya'lls thoughts ????????????????

ok men, no freakin luck, all connections, eyelets, cables and wiring are sound, attempted a post to post jump as suggested in Moespeeds how to post, nothing, removed cap and pushed starter plunger in, again nothing ! fairly certain somethings wrong with the starter internally. Ok, removed exhaust and belt /cog trans cover, didn't realize that long ass rod was there, broke the jam nut loose and removed the rod, didn't hear anything clunk down into the trans so hopefully this procedure was ok ? Question, when I get my starter back from wildsteedworx, does this rod have a certain setting that needs to be completed ?????

Yes there is an adjustment procedure. Go to the technical section here and do a search. If you can't find what you need there let me know.

never mind RRRUFF, found it ~ clutch rod , run it in till it seats (much like a needle valve) make certain it isn't a false seat, then back out 1/4 turn.

You got it, be sure to loosen the cable adjuster on the down tube first. Adjust clutch rod/ clutch, then adjust clutch lever slack, about a 1/8".

Thanks, reckon all the cable / cluych adjustments should be done like my harleys ? with motor / trans cold and 1/8" lever freeplay ?
