While riding, my 2004 BD Chopper will shut off. When I try to restart the bike, the neutral and oil lights in the speedometer flash and it won't start. After letting it sit for a few minutes, the lights stop flashing and the bike will start and run fine. Any ideas?

Bike dies, Won.t start

OK Into. Hi I'm Todd just bought a 2004 Dig Dog Chopper 107 S&S open primary which the previous owner had put on. Bike Looks great! It ran good for me on the way home. Just had a vacuum plug fall off the carb, found some black tape and bingo bike back on the road. Fixed that and went for a test ride only got about 5 miles or so and bike shuts off. When you turn on the key lights flash on the speedometer if I hit the starter button starter pules with the lights? turn key back off and wait. Keep trying this until the lights come on and stay on, bikes starts and runs find. I went strait home. So far check all battery connections, Also more info. when I bought it the back left light did not work and the tach lights did not work. I added a new smaller ground wire from the battery to the frame. Pulled all plugs apart and blew then with air, the three row plug on the controller had one pin corroded cleaned it with scotch bright and looked at that pin on the connector and it was push in a little. Took the connector apart and got the pin back down where it belongs. Bike starts up and notice the tach is now working, put into gear and let out the clutch and bike stalls. This SUCKS. Lights are flashing again. Let it set for a while and yes it works again. Then same thing it starts and runs find until I start to move then it shuts off. It seems to be getting worse almost every time the key is turned on the lights flash even the front turn single flashes. Not sure what to do next. I did not take apart the speedometer yet, how do you do that? Please help Thanks

The battery seems good, bike turns over fast. After reading more post about flashing lights most say low battery could be the culprit? I will put the battery from my Wide Glide in it tomorrow. Let you know if there is any change in how it runs.

Look under the seat. does the bike have a black box 3 1/2 inch long with a connector on it? What I am asking if your bike has a EHC or not. 1st thing take the battery out and buy a new one that will create alot of issues and not sure about the previous owner saying new battery could be years old. Get yourself a trickle charger too. $20 buck and that will keep your battery good as gold.

The Battery is out, It is a YUASA YTX20HL-BS it reads 13 volts with my meter. I look it up online they say it is 300 CCA. I will take to Battery Warehouse and have it checked out. Is this a good fit? What do recommend? Thanks PS If I get it running or not going to OC bike week this weekend. Looks like I ride my FXWG and trailer the DOG.

Now every time you turn on the key the lights just flash!!!!!! About to give up. Does anyone want a 2004 Chopper? HA HA Looks like I ride the Wide Glide to OC Bike week. Did anyone else have any thing like this before???? Thanks

It may be the EHC but you can send it to Curtis to have it tested. I have an EHC that works but I didnt trust it and put in wire plus. Give me a PM and we can talk. May ship it to you while you have yours tested. Dont really need mine and hate charging anyone for equipment I would never use but the wire plus is a step in the right direction. Well it was for me anyways. Some people have other opinions

PS In case you dont know Curtis yet WWW.wildsteedworx.com
