would like feedback on the jets in my SS super

Ok so I got hit with the dreaded peeling tank liner, have had the bike for about 3 weeks. poo.

While my tank innards are soaking in jasco goo, I took apart the fuel lines and the Super G for a thorough inspection. Carb actually looked ok, no debris in it, but it got a complete inspection and cleaning anyway.

Motor is a TP 107 (stock), Crane HI-4 single fire ignition, no EHC or PDM (everything is direct wired). Edelbrock intake, SS super G. Crane is set to race mode, advance dial is set 1/2-way, rear cylinder is set to 0.

Jets in the carb are 74, 295. I don't know what the air bleed is, I looked but could not find a marking.

What do you all think about the jet sizes?

Bonus question, any idea what kind of range between fill ups I should get from both tanks full?

I have stock Super G but have rebuilt my 107 to approx 111 displacement with larger pistons on orig cam. Before the re-build, for 10 years I got very predictable mileage hitting reserve between 155 and 160 miles at 70-75 mph cruise. I always had to adjust up from running lean in the early years. Since the rebuild, break-in, and new baffle on my old v&H 2 into 1 pro-pipes I have been getting an amazing 175 - 180 (15,000 miles plus).

Thanks Rick- Sounds like a sweet setup. I forgot to mention I'm running a Hooker 2 into 1 header w/ baffle. Still learning this specific bike and what to expect from the TP 107. My super G is the older one so it has the fixed .040 air bleed. There's definitely a rough spot on light throttle and popping on decel, seems to be in he transition range from intermediate to main. I'm sure some of that was due to poor fuel feed / tank liner blockage. Thinking I might get a XXX or a Mikuni 45 though. most of my riding is town so a lot more lower to mid rpm than upper, need that to be smooth because there are some absolutely shitty drivers here and I need to be able to gas it / bail out of the way.

ok so I just said F***iT and ordered a XXX carb from Bob. Nice guy. He's setting it up with a 76 main, 32 inter, and 060 bleed. I think this ought to make things run quite a bit better. My super G has the fixed 040 bleed (older style), and that is always going to suck.

Probably a good move. I do run rough at low rpm and have fits respecting a 25 mph zone without some very serious herky jerky (sorry for the technical terms) but its all to trade for that mid to high efficiency I get cross country.

ah yep- understandable. most of my riding is town so I need that smooth low end <> mid transition- especially to get out of the way of knucklehead drivers out here.

You should check out the XXX with the Thunderjets added. that would give you everything you need. I talked to Bob for some time (TazMan on this board), nice guy and really knows his stuff. and the price is (IMO) pretty dang reasonable, especially with the forum member discount and core exchange.

X2, I did have installed the xXx (Booster Kit). Bob is awesome to talk to! :2thumbs:

Some reading here for you (and more if you do a search within the subForums) http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/fuel-air/14439-what-jets-do-you-run.html

Thanks, read that thread too. Did you get the XXX w/ TG installed or without? I did not get the TG version, figured I would be good without it.
I just bought the "Booster Kit" from Bob, and with his help, I did install and tune it myself.

Good Luck.

Roger that- so you noticed a good difference by just installing the booster kit on a stock Super G? What was the biggest noticeable improvement?

XXX Carb showed up yesterday. damn that was some mighty fast turn around time on the order. Bob also set me up with a new carb heat spacer and some longer bolts, and a new gasket for the air cleaner side. Carb is really nice looking, installed easily.

The installed jets are 76 main, 060 main air bleed, 32 intermediate, 040 intermediate air bleed

BTW if you want to protect the shine on your carb, or any other polished aluminum / chrome / brass / stainless / copper parts, use "Protect-A-Clear" coating from Everbrite.

ProtectaClear - Coating Only : Everbrite Coatings - Metal Restoration Products, How to Restore Metal, Protect Metal and Keep Metal Looking Its Best

This will save you an ass-load of polishing later on. It is used by artists to protect their metal work from oxidizing. it has a 600 degree flash point (it will vaporize). comes in spray or wipe on, and it is super easy to apply. it is micro thin so no goopey look and you can't tell it is on. **just don't get it on your paint, it will eat paint**.. if you ever need to remove it, it comes right off with typical solvents.

yup, will do. got to wait for my tanks to get back from the shop. having them dipped, sealed inside and then repainted. I had my buddy inspect the inside of tank with his remote camera scope and a lot of the seam welds appear rather porous. So if I ran raw steel I could very well get fuel vapors seeping out, figured it was not worth the risk so I ponied up for the new tank liner. I'm doing the serious red liner that is professionally applied. I'm just pissed because I'm missing some really good riding weather right now.
