Sad way to leave Sturgis

Well today was day #8 and we started our journey back to Louisiana. Between Sturgis & Rapid City it happened about 1 minute before we got there. On the west bound side a yellow HD pulling a trailer apparently blew out a trailer tire causing the bike to start fish tailing. Biker was 10 miles from Sturgis when he went down hard! Bike was totaled! Biker was in seriously critical shape. Bad when that's the last memory of this yes rally. Last Friday arrived on a wreck at 385 where a car pulled out in front of a bike killing a 21 yr old girl riding on the back. Car was totally at fault. Driver arrested.

Man that is a bummer. With that many people and bikes at the rally odds are shit is going to happen. Hope your trip home is safe and uneventful.

There have been a lot of dumb drivers up here this year in cages. I haven’t seen the totals in days but at day 2 there were 5 deaths and ALOT of close calls with injuries. Ride safe and watch out for "The Other Guy".
The 385 ruined a Career of an Airman on base because he was in a hurry and shot the gap to get to the lake or somewhere. :bang:

there was an article in last weekend's Rapid City Paper. it covered all the deaths from the past 12 rallys. something like 142 deaths. crazy to think that 10 to 12 people die during each rally.

My saftey message I say to friends as they leave on their bikes is this:

Watch out for the idiots.....and if you can't see them......then it's probably you!

Sorry to hear about your experience.

Yes that is sad, but it happens a lot there. On one of the BDM runs about 3 years ago we or several of us that were on that run (with Raywood leading the pack of dog) from Dead Wood to Luncheon area near Hill City. There was a rider laying in the middle of the road, my wife still get chills over that site. That was sad to see.

BTW Raywood ran out of gas on that trip

No shit! My brother hit one last yr on his Ultra Classic. He was running about 40mph when the doe jumped out from behind tall grass. He hit it throwing the handle bars to the right stops, he jerked it back and the bike lept sideways. He fish tailed all over the road but kept it up! My family has raced bikes since we were in diapers. He credits this to his saving the bike, I credit his lucky rabbits foot!

I was on this ride also. Sent shivers up my spine. I also got cut off leaving Deadwood and had to cross into the oncoming traffic to avoid being hit.

I must ride around with my eyes in my pockets.
While i am riding around Sturgis or anywhere else in the US i have never once seen anything like this, road accidents that is.
However
10-12 people killed during the rally week i can relate to that, if i recall in 06 at Glenco 3 guy's got stabbed in one night, so this is obviously part of the 10-12 deaths.

it is sad to hear and hope he does ok. Many idiots there in a hurry. watched a antelope hit a guy but he got down on speed. maybe a broke arm and lots of scratched chrome. He was lucky!
