A and R Motorsports HID kit

After 4 years of fighting with low beams burning out and replacing three ceramic h4 connectors I just ordered a HID kit from A and R motorsports out of Texas. I checked Jake's website and it looks like it is down (permanently?). The slim ballast measures 2.75in x 2.5in x .5 in. I checked my bucket and it looks like it will fit. I'll keep you updated. Just ordered it 15 minutes ago.

I ordered the HID low only. This way there is only one slim ballast. It connects to the three wires in the bucket and no wires to run to the battery. Of course I will have to install it and see if the EHC does the funky chicken dance when I turn it on.

10-4 on the pics.

I had a HID headlight on my bike which I loved. Very bright. Until the EHC did the funky chicken and burned itself out...:(

I received my HID kit today. This is what I have so far. It is 35w. Complete plug and play. With no instructions it is very simple go figure out. The stock Big Dog headlight spring that holds the bulb in doesn't fit right. It looks like the plastic on the HID bulb is not recessed in like a standard bulb. Probably some slight bending of the spring it will clip in. I'll keep you posted.

That's funny
That's the exact same kit WSW has been testing just with a different manufacturer name.
The plastic cover on the bulb gets removed before you install it.
It hasn't done any damage to the EHC yet but it will make the EHC dance a little if you turn the key on with it in Low Beam so I try to make sure it is in High Beam when I turn the bike on. Otherwise it is wicked cool at night and the Xenon high beam is really bright and clear.

Kap. Thanks for that tip. I bought some Velcro to stick the ballast and igniter but I don't believe that will hold to a cone shaped edge inside the bucket. So I came up with some redneck engineering. I bought a caulk size tube of Permatex RTV Ultra Black gasket maker 500 degree temp max. Sticky stuff and should provide some vibration dampening for it. Update on the bulb retaining spring. I have an Adjure Tri Bar blue dot. The HID bulb locks in nicely in this glass. I had to cut the rubber gasket behind the glass to slide the wires through. Won't fit through the hole in it.

I'm surprised yours didn't come with a mount.
The unit WSW will be selling comes with a sweet little metal mount that bolts up perfectly in the bucket.

Have you powered up the scoot yet. Interested in hearing how your EHC handles it...

I haven't had any bad issues with the EHC like I did with the kit Jake was selling 2 or 3 years ago. The voltage and wattage draw is lower so if I turn the key on with the low beam HID activated the EHC will dance for a second.

Haven't fired it up yet. Waiting for the RTV to cure. Should finish install today. I should fire it up today. I'll keep you posted. I'll post some more pics too.

I finished wiring it up and cramming it in the bucket. I say cramming because it just fits. Being me I had to try starting my bike with the HID on to see for myself what the EHC would do. Well let's say I won't second guess Kaptain Amerika anytime soon when he says not to do something!!! It started the first time no problem. I turned it off the motor with the key still on and tried to restart it. The EHC looked like a Christmas tree. Turning the key off had no effect. All the lights were still on with the pretty Christmas tree lit up. I removed the battery leads and put them back on. It worked at resetting the EHC. Now I did it Kaptain Amerika's way by starting the bike with the high beam on. Several starts with high beam on worked every time. Thanks again Kap! HID low beam is very bright. It is 6000k. The RTV sealant worked like a charm at holding the ballast and igniter in place.
