03 chopper starter issue

Well guys it started great the first few times, then it wouldnt. Now its making a grinding noise. Kind of interesting it doesnt grind if I just push the starter button but twist the gas a little and it grinds. Almost in sync with the throttle twist. Guess it just has a little more load when it fires? IDK. Anyway I have double checked the connecting sleeve(correct) double checked the jackshaft(correct). not sure if there is something else broken or improperly assemble in the starter. Works fine on the bench! Thinking I may just bite the bullet and buy a spyke and new jackshaft. Anyone had experience with the one-piece all balls jackshaft? (saying all balls jackshaft makes me lol) Just wondering since im replacing all of it I will go with one piece if it is better. Ive read a couple good reviews but also read that it can hang up easier. Any ideas guys I really want to get back on the road!

I am having the same trouble with starting on my 2003 Mastiff. But it wont even attempt to crank like the first two attempts in your first video.

Have you changed the starter yet? if not, can you video it, or did you video it this time?

tech cycle ph 215 702 8324 makes the best starters on the planet.
they will start 130 cube engines with 12:1 comp w/no comp releases.
they come chromed and polished for around $400.
a tech cycle starter will be the last starter you will ever have to buy.

never engage the starter without the primary cover on to stabilize the jackshaft..
you can use the rear 3rd of a primary cover that has been cut off as a tool when testing a starter like this.
