Hello guys-- Can someone tell me how or if you can unhook the miles counter on a 2005 Mastiff Big dog ? I purchased a bike with very low miles but the more I look at the bike it looks as though it has more miles since the underneath is very dirty. Is there a way to unhook the miles counter and keep riding ? I am just wanting to know if its possible ? Thanks.

One of the old ones.
I don't think you can separate the odo from the speedo on a BDM, but you can sure buy a new or used one with low miles as a plug and play...
The miles on used bikes is unfortunately VERY unreliable, mostly because BDM speedos have kind of a high failure rate. They often fail or some just prefer aftermarket. But this means stock speedos are available.
So the accurate mileage of a Big Dog is, let's say, a complicated issue.....
I would say your suspicions are probably well grounded.
But the bottom line is what condition is the bike in? That determines the value of what someone is willing to pay for it.

Yes, there is a way to "turn off" the mileage counter on some years big dogs.
There is also a way to do an Intro: http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/introductions/25016-your-introduction.html

A scoot that has been rode in the rain or on adverse road conditions will be dirtier than similar scoots.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Very helpful.

Unless you clean every drop of oil off after changing the oil filter, it will get under the motor and pick up dirt and generally look like s**t. Lesson learned along time ago:)
