Speedo not worky once started ~ 05 Chop

Speedo started acting up 6 months ago but wasn't consistent but now it might work 1 out 10. All is good with key on...speedo sweeps, trip reset works and tach lights up. The problem begins once started,everything works but the speedo and trip reset. While riding, I can turn key off then on back on, hit run, hit start and bike fires back up with speedo working.

Battery is a Braille but a few years old and shows 12.85 sitting and running I get 13.74 at idle. Could the battery be the cause of the speedo not working after startup?

It's happened to me. Speedometer would do he initial sweep (at power ON) but didn't do the second sweep (after startup) until I replaced the battery.

The factory speedo's work so intermitent. I replaced mine with a Medallion. I like the face of the factory one better, but not much good if it doesn't work half the time.
