Wires Plus?

Well good to know about the new battery being tested good.

You mention that one day it starts fine the next acts up. When you go to start it, do you then ride it, or is like you go out and start it, not do no riding and then do it again.

If you do start it and go for a ride, what would be the average miles on the ride.

Reason asking, if you are just doing short bar hops, even with the tender on (depending on the model and size), it may not be getting a full charge while riding and leaving you short.

Maybe when it does not want to start again, check the voltage with a good multi meter, see what the voltage is before cranking, what it is when trying to start.

You may want to also check the alternator and VR. Do a search on here to find a good DIY and sticky that breaks down how to do so.

Just a few items for thought to look into. May very well be the EHC, but I sure would go through everything else first and maybe a second time. Oh and without knowing your mechanic and how they are testing the battery, may want to just make sure that it is being properly load tested. Many of mechanic will just through a simple test on that will show voltage and some load, but may still miss like and intercell short, sulfication, and other things that are not so easy to see. Got a battery mart near you, they usual can do a full load-battery check. What type of battery anyway AGM, Lead, LiOn?

Good luck and do not let it beat you, worse case you can do a change out to PDM, WP or go old school and back to basic.

If it starts I will ride it, but not real far....I take a lap around town and back to the shop without shutting it down. Maybe 10 minutes....I know that's probably not long enough but I don't dare go too far by myself. It may not start if I shut it off. My problem is not starting or running...it's whether the damn thing will power up the speedo and headlight. If it does I can hit the run switch and it starts right up, and runs great. I keep the battery charged, and my mechanic did a full load test. I think my battery is good but I have been told I have a low voltage issue (somewhere) by several guys on this site. Not sure how to check that. I did put a volt meter across the battery when not running and got 12.96 volts. I had it running and got 13.7 volts across the battery.

Well the voltage does sound good and should be no problems there! Hang in there, I am sure that between everyone, will figure it out. You can send the EHC to Capt America and have him do a test on it to give you a better idea on the the EHC.

I may do that if I run into a dead end. I've got a whole list of things to check thanks to all you guys that responded today. I now have some good leads to chase down. Thanks everyone!!!!

You're not going to need that ignition switch to diagnose a switch issue.

The ignition switch grounds the EHC which turns it on. There is a JST connector under the ignition switch chrome cover and another in the back bone. I would encourage you to check this out if you can. I replaced my JST connector with a Deutsche Plug and still had the issue. I also soldered the wires together under the gas tank so I absolutely knew this could not be the issue. I tested the actual ignition switch a thousand times and a hundred different ways. I could never prove it was the ignition switch. Of course, in the end, I couldn't prove it was the EHC. But, my WP install fixed something each little wire one at a time!

If you jumper your ignition switch and your EHC turns on properly, then you may have found your problem.
I think we have a winner!! I pulled the chrome cover off the switch housing and checked the connection to the switch...It was dirty. I cleaned it and......success!! Everything powers up at it should and she fires right up! I know I need to give this time to see if it has gone away for good but things are looking up! Thanks everyone for your help! You've been awesome!!

There's a thread on here by bdmridgeback that shows a lot of wire plus installs that look very clean. Might want to check it out.
You are right about the cutting. Every wire on both harnesses has to be cut and reused somewhere.
Those posts were very useful but are gone. I looked for them
