I had a problem with my battery on my 06 K9 and needed to get a new one well before I did I borrowed a battery from one of my Hd's and stuck it in the Dog to see if it would start it. Well like a DA when I put it in I didn't pay any attention to the fact that the HD battery had the posts opposite than the BD battery and for a brief second caused the wires to be hooked up backwards red on neg black pos! when I went to hook it up it threw a spark and the lights came on horn blew with the ign switch in the off position! I only had it crossed for a second and pulled the wire but now after Igot the brand new battery it does the same thing, as soon as I go to hook up the battery the headlight comes on, horn starts blowing like it is sending power everywhere at one time! HAVE NO IDEA what damage I did but something is DEF f-up!:bang:

Someone will chime in that has done the same thing or seen it done. Hopefully you didnt fry the EHC.Maybe try resetting the breaker ?

don't start throwing names around.
are you just barely touching the leads to the terminals or are you making a good solid connection when you attempt it? hook up the positive first with the bolt tight (no small wires) and then firmly touch the negative by itself (be ready to remove the negative if it acts the same way). don't think it would be a fuse/CB cause then there wouldn't be any current to anything. or am i wrong? anybody?
these are just suggestions to be taken with a grain of salt.

Sorry but the circuit breaker has nothing to do with it unless the problem is in the voltage regulator.
And a good suggestions they are! :up:
The EHC has some internal protection against shorts/overloads but I'm not sure it would help against a full on reversal of voltage. Can't hurt to try what Tom says at this point...

Think I read on here once that someone did this and was told to hook it correctly with the key on then unhook it and hook it up normally with the key off. I think that's right. Something about this will reset the EHC. Do a search on the subject and you should be able to find the thread.

Actually, the circuit breaker protects the battery and bike's wiring from a bad voltage regulator. It's wired in series between the VR output and the battery. That's the reason the bike should start even if the CB is popped and battery is good... it just won't charge the battery.

I'm thinking this is the same bike? If so, hooking it up correctly caused something to smoke! :down:
Like I said before, the EHC has internal protection from shorts but there's no reason I can think of to build protection from reversed polarity into it. :bang:
