I'd like to share an email with everyone that Ivan sent me yesterday... I'm also waiting on the official press release.

Hi Tim ,
Been working a lot these last long months and just before news get out I wanted to inform you about following article appeared in AMD magazine November issue

At this moment we have not made an "official" release or statement yet but should normally follow soon by now :

Big Dog branded motorcycles may be about to make a come back, as a result of a deal being worked on by a former Big Dog Motorcycles and a former European representative. They are looking to license the brand name from the administrators of the former Wichita, Kansas BDM manufacturing business and under the "Kansas Motorcycle Works" name bring back bikes based on former Big Dog models. As with the chopper seen here, the first "Kansas Motorcycle Works" built model, there will be one model wich will be engineered to meet road going regelatory requirements worldwide. The first-of-the-kind S&S 111" softail style chopper, with a 250 rear end, is presently undergoing homologation in Europe, hoping to be able to make formal announcements in the next few weeks or months. The objective is to produce high quality bikes that are affordable and that provide owners with a canvas on which to design and customise the bike of their choices.
will update you with more news soon!
best regards ,
Ivan

Interesting, Tim.

Wonder who this mysterious former BDM guys is?

Theres another thread someone started about this as well. Looks like the news broke in some magazine before they came out with an official statement.

I do like the idea of creating 1 or 2 styles of a bike, makes sense still I think the other post mentions something about a 23,000 Euro Price point. Current exchange rate has been floating aroudn the 1.3 range, that would make this $30k USD. Time will tell if it's priced right, I wish they could keep it under $25k USD.

I wonder if this bike would be manufactored in Kansas or Europe? the email you got seems pretty ambigious about the whereabouts of the facility.

Here's the link to the facebook, the one you got above no workey

The whole email seems ambiguous to me!

And to have a companies first "breaking news" come out on Facebook? Seriously?? :job:

With no apparent news from Cyril Huze???

Sorry, but I need something a little more concrete before I get all excited about this...

Thanks for sharing this Tim!!

Dennis

PS Wonder what a less expensive "homologated" version will do to the value of the current US Big Dogs?

I wish I had more money.
With a name like Kansas Motorcycle Works it at least leads one to believe it would be built here. But that could just be a ploy.

Here's what comes up on a Google search of the name:

Kansas Motorcycle Works BVBA - Olmen (2491), Broekstraat 3 | Motorbikes | goldenpages.be

Sorry, but that ain't Dorothy's Kansas... :(
But that could just be a ploy.
I would think if you're in Europe it would make you think it was an import?

Just some more stuff that makes you go, "Hmmmm..."

Dennis

PS "BVBA" is the equivalent of our "LLC".

Don't take me wrong this morning, but I have one Big Dog()Bulldog that i have spent a lot of money to get and keep running. Would I buy another Big Dog made in another country, Hell No. If they started making them in the states and prove them dependable, probably if in the market for another custom. I just can't get too excited about a product with built in trouble being made in another country.

Well just have to see how this all plays out. I asked Ivan to include me on the press release so hopefully we'll have it here first.

I think the prospects are interesting.

Well I hope if it is true they build here in the states. After looking at all the info offered it does look like something is brewing. I for one think its a great idea. Kind of like when Harley bought back their name from AMF.

What it looks like to me is that Coleman has figured out a way to milk the Big Dog name a little more without lifting a finger (except to sign the licensing agreement) and continue having no obligation to provide any support for the 25K previously manufactured bikes!

:iagree:

Although this seems more like franchising... :D

PS I hope I'm wrong about all this but "if it quacks like a duck..." :(

A sign of the times. Used to be the US market was where everyone expected to make their money. Not anymore...

I hope they learned a lesson regarding "Quality Control"
BDM'S QC seemed to be their buyers, something that one of their executives told me when my '05 chopper had so many problems that they had to swap it out for a new '07 under the Nevada lemon law.

Hmmm if you ask me it looks like they're going in a different direction.

1. Modular Concept Chopper
2. S&S 111ci v-twin engine
3. Jim's 6-speed transmission
4. fat 250-section rear tire
5. fully adjustable progressive suspension.

Described as "unmatched in quality and performance" the MCC01's 'standard' platform package is designed as a reliable and robust foundation on which "our customers can specify or add their own parts and accessories to deliver the kind of affordable performance, reliability and styling package that the most discerning of riders are looking for" said company founder and co-owner Matt Moore.

With 10 years of experience at big Dog Motorcycles under his belt, Moore, with co-owner Ivan Dewit (an experienced OE technical and management executive and former European importer Big Dog Motorcycles) believe this new approach "meets the needs of the market for affordability and meets the needs of riders for a custom motorcycle that is truly a reflection of the owners riding style and requirements".

Dewit says that "everybody has their own vision for their machine, and our motorcycles will provide the platform on which that ownership and riding experience can be built".

With more models expected for release later this year, production will be based at facilities on both sides of the Atlantic, allowing KMW to quickly and easily respond to rider requests with a platform that is tailored for street regulation requirements from the get-go.

In addition to motorcycles, KMW will also release a new, modern, and highly-fashionable apparel line "styled in Italy" which offers rider comfort as well as stylish and contemporary design.

Big Bike Europe is the all-new 'headquarters' expo concept for the international motorcycle parts, accessory, custom, performance, tuning service and workshop industry.
