I have a 2007 Pitbull and when trying to start my bike it turned over a few times then went to making a vaccumm like sound and not actively turning over. Does anyone have any suggestions what this could be? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Its not turning over now at all?????? Does it even try??? Check battery, voltage should be like 12.6--12.8..make sure connections are good, clean and tight......May have to buy a new battery, charge it up,install it and retry......Start with that first...I recommend Braille batterys! TOUGH as nails, and MADE IN THE USA!!!!!!!

We will help ya figure it out ok bud!:2thumbs:

I would do what Diesal Dan said. Get a voltage meter put it on the battery if your not getting between 12.5 - 13.0 w/ out it running your battery is shot. Check all your connections though first. To the starter , the bolts are tight to the battery , the altinator etc. Your regulator could also be shot on the bike check that to.

Seeing him say it's making a vacuum sound makes me think the jackshaft broke, and he's hearing just the starter turning now.

I just had the pinion gear break off on my starter and I heard a whining sound not a vaccum.

Sounds like a typical bad battery with not enough power to crank the motor over all the way. I know the bike has the electronic compression reliefs maybe that is part of the noise.

keep us posted.

I agree. Does it seem like the starter motor is engaging on the ring gear? Or at least trying to?
The gear on the starter may have broke off and he's hearing just the starter motor whine or buzz noise (or whatever you want to call it) In other words, no load on the starter motor.

I instantly thought broken jackshaft also...but I think first we need to establish a GOOD battery, and connections first as a baseline to start from, because he says its not even cranking over now....:)Then go from there...just my thoughts...

vacum sound :loony: Dirt Devil or Kirby need more info, so far it sounds like it sucks.

I think I have to assume the bike sat? I then have to assume along with Dan, that we need to establish a sit time, age of battery, is battery original, never charged, it's riding season, it wanted to fire over, it did one of those, 'for every sound, there is a suck and a blow?'

Didn't the compression push the piston down, he hears the for every action there is an opposite is the crankcase is what he heard suck?

So the battery is weak, the shaft is not broken to cause a reverse of compression was the bottom of the piston sucking crank throw. Just an internet guess between what little there is to go buy... A battery.

:flag: Like Dan said... "Buy American." Well, in a way he said it like that. So the question back is... Did we charge the battery any? Is the battery original kind of questions.

Well if it turns over a little bit but very slow and then not and he hears a vacuum sound, may be as many have said, bad battery, low battery, bad connections to starter or high resistance within starter.

Not knowing exactly what he means by vacuum sound, I will go on limb and say maybe it is the intake sound of one of the cylinder as it goes very slow through the intake stroke due to last bit of inertia from a poor crank. Much the same as you may hear if your turn the engine over by hand as it hit the TDC and goes passed it. Sort of like some may remember from kick starter an old engine as you lined it up for the real start stroke.
