Hey guys, new to the forum and first post. Brother has a 2006 K9 117", started to change his rocker box gaskets (TP) and found front cylinder base gasket is bulging out and leaking. Ordered top end rebuild kit and S&S manual for the engine through S&S. Is there any shortcuts or tricks you guys can advise me on as I tear this Dog down to the cases. Never messed with an S&S carb, I am used to working on harley twin cams with mikuni's or delphi. Do you need to separate the carb from the intake for removal or can both be pulled at the same time? Also ordered the ring compressor tool posted on here from NAPA. Thanks for any tips and info. This is a great site !

OK guys, I have everything removed down to the heads. WTF do you do about the compression releases ? I found one post about it and it says to cut the wire and pull it through the frame. Is this correct ? Can someone post a pic of the plug I'm looking for as my brother has so many LED's on here! Plugs everywhere ! Also if there are any other ways of getting them out please let me know the trick. Thanks
Thanks a million Raywood for the info ! I ordered S&S part #53-0045. I have been looking at your post about a top end rebuild with TP rocker boxes but the pics don't show up for me. Am I doing something wrong ? Now just have to wait for gaskets and S&S manual to get here and this Dog will be barkin soon !
Raywood, printed out the instructions for the S&S compression release socket. Looks like you need to have one end of the release wiring loose to feed it through the socket. Can you tell me where the plugs are located for the compression releases ? The only part I don't have removed is the gas tank. It looks like the release wires run through the frame towards the battery. OH forgot bike is a 2006 K9 Thanks for any help Josh

Just follow the wires back to the connector's, mine are under my tank

Thanks a million Raywood, I will be pulling the tank off tonight. Just trying to get this apart and ready to rebuild for my brother as riding season is getting sooo close. Now just waiting on S&S to get my gasket kit here. Just finished up my 2006 harley dyna motor. It's a 107" using JE 20* pistons at 11 to 1 and tman 662-2 cams. Had it tuned in Johnstown by a well known tuner . Little 107" made 122hp and 113tq. This is a fantastic site and look forward to gaining some knowledge on these big dogs, my brother and 3 friends all have 2006 through 2009 K9's
Got the dog stripped down to the case last night. All went well with the tear down, gonna take the heads and jugs to work with me and clean them up in our parts washer as soon as my S&S comp. release socket gets here. Any wise words of advice for reassembly ? Do you use any type of lube on the intake seals ? Thanks for any info guys. Also am I allowed to post pics ? Thought maybe I would post a few if I'm allowed. Brew, doing the rebuild for my brother. Started with a lower rocker box leak, then I saw he was missing a piece of his front cylinder base gasket. Tore down to there and rebuild is with all stock parts. Man theses pistons are down in the hole along way ! I tried to convince him to at least get the jugs cut to zero the deck height, he wanted it back ASAP as riding season is here. Will be assembling the rocker boxes tomorrow and hopefully have her all buttoned up.
Got everything buttoned up on the motor. Installed rocker boxes and rockers. Adjusted lifters to 4 turns from zero lash. Now just have to wait on the exhaust bracket to get here so I can light the fire ! Any suggestions on how to prime the oil system without starting it ? Can I leave the plugs in the wires and ground them to the cylinders and turn the motor over ? First time doing this with an evo. Thanks for any info. Few more pics
