Motor Started Running Real Rough

RIP Brother
So I'm flyin down the freeway on my way from Ripon to Stockton to have lunch with the girlie friend. My 2005 BD Chopper DT is running as good as ever when out of nowhere it acts like its running out of gas, starts running real rough and losing power. I pull off the freeway and the dang thing is running so rough it sounds like its almost running on one cylinder. Affraid of doing any damage to the motor i shut it off and call a tow truck. Upon returning to the house about an hour and a half latter I try to start the bike and it starts right up and sounds fine again so I take it for a lil test ride and sure as heck the motor does the same exact thing. I limp it home and let it cool off and restart it but this time its not running well but still really rough with no power. Ive cleaned spark plugs, the screen inside the tank and dumped gas and refueled with fresh to no avail. I'm stumped but would love to hear any helpful ideas??:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

Are you getting spark in both cylinders when it's doing this? You mentioned you cleaned the spark plugs but didn't say if they were both working...

Did you check your wires at the coil.
I had an issue with one of my wires coming loose at the coil and making the motor behave that way.

You may have sucked up a little piece of carp into the main jet. Pull the carb bowl and see if you have anything floating around in the gas that is in there. If so pull the main jet and blow out.

Thanks to All

After much investigation and a very informative talk with S&S I have found I do have the TP rocker boxes with TP rocker arms which are known to cause problems and have in my case. I will do a complete top end rebuild and of course replace all TP gear with factory S&S parts to remedy and prevent recurring in future.

Thanks Guys

Ok so what did the investigation show was the problem that the TP were causing? Or is it that just because you have TP on, and S&S indicated said some have caused problems, that must be it?

Have you found a drop valve, bad guide, bent push rod, broken spring or what?

Ya well maybe I shot off mouth a little early. I haven't actually torn bike down yet because of financial limits but I did do a compression test and leak down tests. Front cylinder is puking oil really bad to the point of fouling plug after warm up , not to mention the smoke . And sure S&S said that the TP rockers were probably the cause but I'm not basing everything I've said on it. It's a known fact that the TP rockers have cause some problems for some of the bikes. After reading Rays " how to" I am considering doing the work myself and if the problem lays with the TP gear I see no reason to not replace it with S&S parts in hopes of preventing future problems. I didn't mean to mislead anyone or point fingers in the wrong direction , jus killin me the bike sitting in the freakin garage broken, me unemployed but still makin bike payments and wondering how the hell I'm going to get it fixed before all this beautiful riding weather is gone.

Good Luck, the first thing I would have done was to replace the valve stem oil seals, the Crank sensor and even the ignition module. Sometimes when this sensors get hot they fail. You may have been puking oil after letting it sit for 6 months the oil drained from the tank to the sump in the motor. Just a little food for thought. But that is me. :2thumbs:

Update

Hi all:
We'll the bike has been in the shop for 3 weeks and the news is not good. There is actually a lot to tell you but I want to wait till I get all the info before shooting off my mouth. When I say info I mean facts. Getting into this engine has been like opening a can of worms but I'll keep you all updated as I learn more. Be safe and talk to you soon.:angry::angry::bang::bang::bang:
