PRIMARY COVER: O-Ring or Gasket?

I did search the Forum but I cannot find the answer... Which one is best, the O-Ring or the Gasket?

--Baker Primary O-ring, Big Dog 2005-2010, 3026A-DSSC, OEM replacement primary case o-ring, 55″ Viton. For Big Dog models from 2005-2010.

--Outer Primary Gasket, Big Dog 2005-2010, 3026-DSSC-J, OEM replacement outer primary gasket for Big Dog models from 2005-2010. Gasket can be used as a substitute for the outer primary o-ring PN 3026A-DSSC.

Which one do you recommend? Thanks.

AND Where can I buy it???

never have used the gasket (seems like it would be harder to clean the surfaces). got my supply of "O"-rings straight from Baker, but i think i saw that Curtis has them at WSW.

Hey Buddy I have had my cover off twice and with the o-ring style I have been able to reassemble twice with no leaks using the same o-ring over. Not sure about the re-useability of the gasket. Others will know that have experience with both.

Hey Franco baker told me today the main shaft failure was due to clutch nut backing off and letting the clutches wobble

Unfortunately this is not the case Wood. Thanks for the plug though.
I am working on it but have not found a replacement yet.

Cool, I will go with the O-Ring then

Thanks for the update, I will make sure of checking this out properly too!
I have to get in there to have a good look at everything and adjust the chain... last time I changed the fluids I did notice the chain was very loose... about 3 cm up & down play.

when i ordered my o-ring for primary and new clutch hub nut last week from baker i was talking with salesman about the mainshaft heat problems and bearing problem with the dd6 tranny in the bd, he was adamant that there was nothing wrong with them and that all the tranny issues were caused by the clutch nut backing off or carrier breaking and sliding out to the end of the mainshaft causing (quote) "undue" stress on mainshaft and bearings, hum:loony:

Definitely "O" ring. BTW if there wasn't a problem with the original mainshafts then why was is revised as Andrew stated. I was told by Baker that the original mainshafts were a problem and the new revised shaft was indeed stronger.

Obviously they (Baker) are contradicting themselves with their answers........
