Lowering and Baffles

2003 Chopper. I'd like to lower the rear 1/2", anybody
do this? Ride solo only. I also have 2" Big Radius Vance
and Hines 2 into 2. Anybody running baffles to tone it
down a bit?

When I got my 03, it had air ride on it. With it aired all the way up it sat about 1/2'' lower than stock. I was constantly draging my kick stand and foot pegs. I just installed a new set I picked up from Wild Steed Works, not only does it ride better, but I not draging unless I want to. Just my two cents.

These bikes are very low as set up from Big Dog, I grind the pipes and pegs regularly and I don't ride my K9 agressively. As a note of caution, a fellow rider lowered his wife's bike and she dug the pipes into the road hard enough to cause a terrible "high side" which she did not survive. I would advise you to think twice before lowering you bike.

On the baffles, more people are pulling the baffles to make the bike louder than are trying to quieten it down. You can go back to the stock exhaust if a quieter ride is what you are after. You can pick up stock pipes for basically shipping from guys like me that pulled them off the day I bought the bike. I gave my pipes away for free.

I agree these bikes are low enough to the ground, hell I had to build an extenstion on my table lift ramp just to get the bike on a frigen table lift! Bringing it down 1/2" I don't possibly see any reason to waste your time, and if you hit a deep pothole you might wish you had that extra 1/2 inch if you bottom out.

If you want to lower for aesthetics, get an air ride so you can let it out when you are sitting at the bar to get that slammed look.

Adjustable shocks will get you a little lower.... and baffles will tone it down a bit and probably provide a little better performance.

I used to run the Big Radius. Started with the stock baffles (which I'll bet V&H sells separately). The stock baffles seemed quiet to me, so I pulled them. Without any baffles, the pipes were crazy loud and backfired every deceleration. Finally, settled on the Big City Thunder Monsters. Loved 'em.

For several years now, I've been running a set of secondhand Grumpy's Twisted Sisters, with little more than thumb screws as baffles. I remain extremely satisfied.

Nope Sorry... I have the Big Radius 2 into 2 and had Big Dog take OUT the baffles completely on my '08 Mutt. Runs perfectly souds AWESOME!! Never have had an issue with this bike since I've bought it new. It now has 22,000 miles still has not been in the shop for anything but normal items... brakes, oil changes, tune ups and scheduled maintenances.... LOVE IT!!!! :2thumbs:

I replaced my V&H BR 2 in 2 last year sometime with a set of Hookers, I had to get a mounting bracket made for the Hookers so I decided to experiment with the V&H a little. To me.....the V&H sounded way too 'Pingy' and almost sounded like there was a constant exhaust leak. So, I removed the full length baffles and lined them with 2 pieces of fiberglass tape, tape size is about 2 in wide by 6-7 in long. I didn't wrap them I just put a 2 cut pieces the length of the baffle and only put the pieces in the center part of the baffle so they would slide back in. Performance is much better, zero back fire on decel and they now have that deep throaty sound I was looking for. I may just keep them on there after the bracket is complete. BTW I'm running 32/76 jets.

Standard fiberglass wrap tape that comes in a roll, probably, just guessing, about 1/16th in thick
