Anyone installed a 3 point charging system

Taking bike into custom shop next week to have all the fluids changed for the 2500 mile check up. Shop suggested that with the BD and batteries, and how they don't charge when sitting, only when on the road. He is suggesting installing a 3 point charging system so that whenever the bike is started it starts to charge. Cost is like $200.

Rob, out of curiosity... why vented for the close primary? (the stock is not vented)

Mick, If you read this... I would be interested on your pricing too.

55560 1981-1999 EVO Big Twin includes vented rotor (aftermarket engine, closed primary systems)

The Compu-Fire 40 AMP 3 Phase charging systems

Provide 25 AMPS at idle and 40 AMPS continuously above 2800 RPM. The unique narrow rotor and stator combination fits Softail/Dyna primary cases and the voltage regulator bolts on without any frame modifications. The precision balanced vented rotor keeps the stator cooler in closed primary systems to maintain maximum output under all high current draw conditions. The large flanged seal spacer provides maximum support for the rotor and the voltage regulator output is calibrated to 14.25 volts from idle on up.

The same would apply to the non-vented for belt drives except of course theres no need for vents do to the openess of running a belt drive, plus with it being closed/non-vented no crud (dust/dirt) can get into the rotor and stator do to the lack of vents. :D

Excellent info guys. Thanks. Have decided to get this done since my new battery keeps drawing down after a few days without the tender on it. Will let you know how it goes.

Im Pretty sure I installed the Compu-Fire 55560 in mine.
You may want to call CF and ask then for sure though.
I was going to add the part number and some other info to the How-To on the install that I did, but the Mods closed the thread right after I did it and it never got updated.
Been too long now and I no longer have any of the info.

Also I paid $280 for mine back in 2008 when I did mine.
So $288 shipped is a normal price.

Will this elimanate having to use your tender?

Installing a 3 phase charge system has nothing to do with the bike sitting in your garage for days.
As long as you still have the EHC in the bike you will need a tender on it to keep the battery from going dead. After I installed the wire plus and the Big Boar battery I no longer needed a tender.
My bike can set untouched for 2 months and will crank right over.

3 phase charge system will just save you from taking out your EHC because the stock charge systems were junk. The spike a lot and have poor regulators. Also the stock unit doesn't charge below 2000 rpm. Where the Computer fire does.

Seems that unless you really are having issues with your charging it's an expensive upgrade for not much benefit if you are already keeping you dog on a tender.

I can see replacing it with this upgrade if your current VR fry's or stator craps out but just seems like a waste of money to me if everything is currently functioning.

Nobody rides their bike below 2k RPM, I hope anyways. So it just charges at idle? Big Whoop
