compression release opinions

I have been thinkingnabout installing compression releases of my s&s 107. looks like s&s has an electric and manual kit. i know the heads are pre-drilled and plugs for these. i also found that TP makes manual valves that are only about $25 a piece. threads on those are 10mm x 1mm. idk if those will even fit the pre-drilled holes. im looking for opinions as to the most value for the money. im thinking manual release may be more reliable but i have no experience with either. what are all my options here and which is best?

Most have the electric but as Woodbutcher does, just as easy to reach under and puch them in if you go manual.

tom are yours electric or manual? my electric will not stay open unless i hold them down...hard to hold two C.P.s and hit start button...are they suppose to click and stay open? mine are working ok ive checked with the starter unplugged...

Pressing down a electric release does not hold it open It will spring back unless is faulty. The electric release works like a seloniod (sp) when hit with the voltage. Like a magent kicks in and holds it open.

The electric are good and are fairly easy to replace if needed. It seems that the rear cylinder release gets more build up than the front cylinder.

by hitting them before cranking, it kinda guarantees they are ready to open with no carbon build-up.

whether it has done any good or not, don't know, but haven't had any problem out of them for 5 1/2 years.

I installed electric S&S releases in my 2003 chopper. Wired them into the starter relay. So when you press the start button the releases automatically open. And stay open as long as you are turning over the starter. You can hear the releases exiting compressed air from the chamber them when the bike hits and you release the start button they close. I have had mine 4 years now and love them. Without the releases I was eating a Spykes Heavy duty starter every 9 months. With the releases. It has been 4 years and still going!!!!

havent had to replace a starter yet, but the starter definately freezes from compression sometimes when i start up. i think its a no brainer to install a set. just wondering is it worth the money to go electric or should i pay half as much for the manuals. looks like the manuals are tied to a plunger thing you pull before starting. i have no problem pulling a plunger to start everytime especially if it will give me less problems in the long run.

These engines have very high compression and it really is mandatory to get the releases! I have eaten 4 Spykes heavy duty starters!

Keep I mind that your 03 requires an 02 starter relay. Many threads on it here. I installed them in my 03 and its a good move
