Can the dog kill a battery? I just had a new battery installed 3 mos ago/ 3000miles. On my last ride about 70 miles the dog just stopped running and no power to anything (battery was very hot). Voltmeter reads 11 volts with the battery disconnected but only 1volt with it was hooked up. I took it to advance auto for battery check and they said the battery is bad. Is there anything i should check before putting a new one in?

If the battery is bad then your going to have to start with a new battery. Once it starts you can check your charging system.

got a new battery but when i tried to hook it up the starter and everything engaged including horn, compression relief and brake lights with the key in my pocket. I disconnected the starter wire and tried to hook it back up and everything still engaged except of course the starter. I disconnected the wire going to the ignition key and it still acts like everything is powering up. The only thing that lights flashes on the EHC is the starter and nothing else. disconnected the entire EHC and applied battery power hoping to reset but after hooking it back up still no go. Any ideas? can the EHC be resetted? just removing power did not help on the reset at all.

Since i can not find any one input to the EHC that will tell all systems to turn on with the key in my pocket, I installed the Wire plus kit and now no start, it cranks. Everything works normal with the engine off, lights, comp release, turn signals...The little red light on the ignition module does not come on or flicker at all even with the engine cranking.I'm getting 12V going to and out of the ignition module. Wire plus is suggesting to send the power supply back for testing because the voltage going to the ignition module drops from 12+volts to 10+ volts when the starter is engaging and goes back to 12+ volts when starter turned off(normal?). I'm sending the ignition module and sensor to thunderheart for testing. Any comments or other ideas will be greatly appreciated. DAMN MISSING OUT ON BIKE WEEK!!!!!!!!!

Did you disconnect the wire going to ignition switch at the EHC/Wp or did you disconnect at the switch. Not sure but since it would power up when you had the key off with the EHC and somewhat same with WP, it sounds to me like it may be a shorted wire for the power circuit. Possible between the switch and the EHC/WP Connector such as a chafe between the black and orange wire. All the switch does is complete the ground connection via the switch, but if the two are shorted somewhere between the switch (assuming the switch is disconnected thus taking out a shorted switch as the problem) and EHC/WP connection (possible the connection itself), than you would a power up when the battery is connected (or a drain if it was connected). Suggest that you do a continuity test and make sure the black and orange from ignition switch are not showing continuity in a normal state (switch no one-wire disconnected from switch, as well as EHC/WP and go from there.

sorry you lost me, I have the WP , new ignition switch and new ignition wires installed. The phantom starting and powering up was with the EHC, not happening now. I get 12v going and coming from ignition module with the ignition in position 2(starting). The ignition module light does not come on or flicker at all even when the engine is cranking...

I installed a new switch ~ Ah, what was the last job you did before this all occurred? I changed the switch but now I take one wire off, I said I take the one wire off: I think it's hot with everything off. So, what happens you take all the wires off the switch? Oh, I think I have the other wires crossed if I only took the one wire off thinking it is the hot wire. But still everything is turned off like not being on the hot side with key off. Now it does not even flicker because I think the wire is on the wrong prong?

Think you might use an ohm meter and see which direction things move in that switch, or swap my wires now and see what happens? No. I think the ohm meter needs to be the fuse, by showing you who is flowing where? You mean there might be so much resistance thru ground, I won't blow a fuse or heat up the wires, but I can run a stop light off my oil bag kind of parasitic draw?

That's WATTit sounds like to me? Turn the lights off in the garage. Make sure there is no gas smell coming off the battery or shield it from the vent. Remove either battery strap off the battery. If there is a huge arc, might be something there. If it's a tiny blip of a spark, it may be normal memory voltage needed for the clock anchit. A melting arc at the lead post is yeah, a parasite big time.
