TRUE COLORS COLLISION
Since I am full of questions this evening, why stop at tires!!!!!!!!
I have not had a working speedometer or tachometer for over 2 years now,I am sick of not knowing how far I have went most of all but also would like to have an operating speedo...With all that I am thinking of getting one of them NEWFANGLED MEDALLION SPEEDOMETERS. However I surely would love to hear of everyones opinions of them if they own one and have used it for a season or so......$500 for a freakin speedometer is crazy if its only gonna end up like the other 3 I have had previously...broken.....So please sound off bout your Medallion if you got one...thanks....

I believe the speedometers that came stock with my bike were the white face autometers, and I dont think they were built to withstand the vibratory nature of the beast,,,Its a known fact that these Speedos fell apart on most guys....well those of us that put a few miles on their bikes.....my bike has about 30,000 miles and I basically havent ridden it in 3 seasons because of raising my 3 year old grand daughter since birth, shes old enough now for me to entrust a few babysitters to get some miles on the bike this season........

Jimi.....I'm just full of answers today :D I tried to order one of the Medallion speedometers from BDMPP last month and was told they were out of them and not sure when they would get more. They are supposed to contact me when or if they get some.

The one I tried to order was 173-000097-01 Chrome. They also have a polished one 173-000097-02. I didn't check to see if they had them in Polished. I wanted chrome. But your right $462.00 bucks for a speedometer is crazy. Wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I said a Medallion Speedometer. I like the way they look and some of the functions on them.
Here is a link to some pics and discussions from people who own them

Mickee ...your allways there for me Buddy...thanks for the info...I did write Bob an email asking bout warranty on such a costly mechanism ,he implyed he had absolutely none in stock whatsoever....I really wanted to know about if they sustained the abuse from our bikes and would live to tell the speeds about it!!!!!!!!! And now I shall call AMY...

I've had a Medallion installed for a year now and love it. Looks great and functions great! Only having it a year, I've only put 5,xxx miles on it without any issues. Hope it stays that way

Jimizee,

Cannot speak to the Medalion, but if you start to consider the Dakota Digital, can verify that so far mine has been excellent.

I too called about a month ago with cash in hand, ready to pull the trigger. They told me they were back ordered and couldn't give me an idea on time. My speedo worked, but not the tach. I ended up buying a new tach ring and all is good. But I would have had a medallion if they were in stock. I think they really add a modern look to the bike. Our factory stuff looks dated, IMO.

I have the polished Medallion speedo, because the housing is polished. Installed it last year and really like it. I find it a bit hard to read in the daylight compared to the Autometer, but is excellent at night. It has some nice features like dual trip meter, and service interval countdown. You can have the speedo or tach either in analog or digital. You can change it from one to the other at any time. I've got about 1500 miles on it now. This speedo has no needle bounce at all. My autometer used to jump all over the place. I installed the new wider speedo mount bracket also. You have to add 1 new wire that comes with the kit that runs from the circuit breaker and change one of the connectors. A Dakota Digital would just be a plug and play, but it is only in digital. I prefer the analog.

I picked up the Dakota Digital when they first came out and have not had any issues with it. Love the color (blue), easy to read and looks great.

I have had the Medallion on my bike for about 5k miles now and really like it! Easy to read, twin trip counters, maintenance mileage countdown, configurable, no needle bounce...whats NOT to like??

I was going to suggest the Dakota Digital myself that is what I have on my chopper. I haven't had any problems with it looks sharp is small and works well. Chrome looks nice. I mean it was $500 but I feel it was worth it.

I'm just curious as to why you paid $500 for your Dakota Digital? As a dealer I know that they retail for $279.99! Goodness gracious--$500??

Jimi- I think Bob may be snowed in. I tried to call yesterday and today and no response, but he commented on my facebook last night...something about being snowed in.
