Primary chain adj?

Energy One
I read the post here and still have a few questions, imagine that:

What is considered a worn shoe, needs replaced?

Can the chain be adjusted correctly from the inspection window? If yes, any helpful hints? Is it just the center nylon locking nut and not the upper allen head?

If I need to remove the primary cover to make the chain adjustment should I anticipate having to replace the o-ring gasket and where can I purchase one?

Should I use silicone on the primary cover gasket like the inspection cover?

Thanks for any insight.

Its the nylon locking nut for chain adjustment and I re-use the same o- ring gaskets. I prefer to remove the outer primary cover when making the adjustment so I can inspect everything. Silicone I use a little bit on the inspection cover just to hold everything in place

Do you know what the chain tension spec is? Popped my cover of of my 08 pitbull just to check and see and to me it seems a little loose, but I have heard you can wipe a crank out if its too tight?

I will copy the details from my service manual and post it for you.

A service manual is a wonderful thing!

I adjust mine through the inspection cover. I push up on the chain with a wide tape measure and use the bottom line of the case of the removed cover for the start point for my measurement. It is better to be on the loose side rather than too tight. Torque is 25 ft.lbs. and 5/8" to 7/8". Mine has a gasket and it can be re-used.

Just ordered a hyd unit, sounds like i may be waiting a while.
As long as it is quicker than the WP delivery time was.

I have adjusted many primary chains in my lifetime, various ways and using different deflections and the way it is explained in the manual and the advise from others on here, that methord is best.
If you don't have a manual get one, if you ask nicely one of BDB brotheres may send you a copy.

I tried a hydraulic unit would not fit in the primary to wide. If they make one that fits I'M in for one.

Hydraulic isn't really the right phrase but that happens to be what they call them. Its just a spring that is tensioned to 35lbs and that keeps the shoe against the chain. It does improve shifting etc

Mine has a check ball valve in the bottom that alows oil to be drawn into a chamber which acts like a shock absorber so the operation of the tensioner is smooth and controled.
