I have a 2004 pibull with the split tanks when i fill it i juat was filling the right side cap. i was always running low on fuel and even close to out but when i put fuel in it would only take 2,5 gal, at best then i un screwed the left cap to see it as not transfering over and just running out one side? so now i fill left side the fill right side why won't it transfer to the other tank quicker?

Cause the cross-over tube is only a 1/4". When I had my Mastiff I filled the left tank first then the right side. Its something you have to live with

My 05 pit has exact same prob. I have to keep it full or it will run out way before its actually empty. It seems to use the gas in the left tank faster than it can transfer from the right. I think bdm realized this was a problem because shortly after our models they went to a single tank.

Good to hear from another pit owner!

I wish I had more money.
They ran split tanks for something like 8years. If you are running out of fuel before they equalize then you have an issue other than a 1/4" hose. I do like the others said and fill separately. But the small amount of fuel that the hose traders would tell a guy that they would have to fill both sides. That's why there are two caps. I'm not bustin balls really but like I said if you run out of fuel and still have some in the other side you have an issue somewhere. Venting maybe on one side. The hose needs replacing. Might even have one of the elbows plugged that the crossover hose is attached to.

The split tanks were never intended to be filled from one side. Harley's were always that way before going to a single tank. if both caps come off you have to fill both sides to get a full tank.

Agree. I think adequate venting is the bigger issue. But I think their crossover setup was an inferior design considering the angle of the tanks. I fill both sides as well. Always have.

My problem is my gas caps have vents in them. So if I top off the tanks and lean the bike on stand it will leak out the left cap, so I just top off right side. If I go on a long trip I top off both sides and I know I get about 40mpg. So knock on wood I have not run out of gas.

only the high side (when on the kick stand) tank should have a vented cap. Are you running the original caps?

Not sure it has paint savers and the cap pop up before you can twist them off. When you done you push down twist a quarter turn and they are flush with the paint savers. These caps come on the bike when I bought it. I have not seen them on any other bike pictures I have seen.
