On the road again almost !

Bought a 07 k9 about two months ago and finally got it licensed and went for a ride, went about twenty miles bike quit . waited a few minutes started up turned around and headed for home quit two more times i was hopeing it was the battery buy it checked out good. I don't know much about electronics but i have read enough on this site to know that i should look into getting WP kit . don't like riding on or in anything i can't depend on .

That sucks. I guess it's too late to ask the previous owner about any problems he had electrically. Before you shove it overboard, check all the connections and cables for anything that may be loose. There's several threads on this subject. Good luck

going to get the WP Kit on ebay ,if for no other reason i guess but peace of mind, don't want to have that dought about it leaving me on on the side of the road down in Death Valley on a weekend run.

I wouldn't invest in a wp until you diagnose yor issue. If you have a blown headlight are you going to buy a wp? No right? You have an issue that will cost much less than a wp. Might be as easy as a gas cap. I'm not trying to be debbie downer, but let's figure out the issue before we get crazy.

Where do we start I'am ready to try anything.Iman has told me about the gas cap and it checked out ok .Battery is fine been look for loose wires,high and low beam are fine.

Are all your electrics dead when it quits?
I found I still had turn signals so... I checked out the carb. Float needle was sticking. It didn't buck or jump, just quit. New float needle and seat fixed it.
Otherwise, check any and all connections, terminals, wires. The electronics on these beasts are REAL sensitive to even the slightest electrical disturbance.

Make sure you dont have a tank liner coming apart and floating around. A WP is a nice piece of mind but if its not the problem you will still be cussing......troubleshoot the easy first and go from there. Just my opinion..... lots of threads on troubleshooting. Give us some details on "it quits". Does it sputter and die, what lights are on the Ehc when it "quits", ect.... the more info the better.

I'll save you from some headache.. When you have the time run these simple tests...

Let the bike idle for about 10-15 mins then ride it around short blocks to get it nice and warm, If the bike quits and the restart time is long, I would suggest either Cam Sensor, Or Coil and or maybe Ignition.

Now to eliminate fuel from being an issue.. Grab your self a gas can (with petcock off) disconnect the fuel line at the carb then aim it at the gas can and turn the petcock on, You should have a nice steady flow.. If that checks out ok replace fuel line and remove the intake cover and check for your spray in the carb should be a nice solid mist.

Once you really tear in to these bikes they are very simple. I troubleshooted for about 2 months tried everything, Ended up ordering my wireplus December 4th cant wait to install it. Best of luck report back your findings

As soon as the weather permits i will take it out again, I really appreciate the help. When the bike quit on me the first time it was like turning off the ignition. sat for 2 -3 minutes started up ran for a couple of miles same thing like the the switch was turned off .This time i was trying to turn left so i was caught in the middle of a four lane highway so i had to push it quite aways to get out of traffic,forgot to look at which lights were flashing . will do all that next time for sure, anyway it clicked and clicked but would not start this time, long story short walked home got another battery,by the time i got back it started right up, didn't need the other battery.

Hm, Well with the the symtoms your describing it almost sounds like a loose connection.. but at the same time could be coil/cam sensor. Be patient with it and all will turn out well.

in your case it sounds like the crank sensor which is right beside the stator plug on the front of the motor by the end of the oil filter. every one is saying cam sensor but this is what they are meaning i think.

04's Do not have crank sensors to my knowledge. I very well could be wrong though.

I'am sorry I thought i mentioned this problem is on a 07 k9 my bad. So do i replace the sensor or can it be repaired.I'am making a list just like Santa and i will check every suggestion you guys come up with at least the ones i can understand, not the sharpest knife in the draw when it comes to electronics. I had this exact problem on my 07.

I have a thread with this posted about my experience with this problem.

It could be a heat sensitive crank sensor part. On another Dog having a different problem: Instead of pulling all the harness apart to replace the sensor I just spliced in the new sensor in the old harness down underneath where the heatshrunk splice was hidden. Note: Make sure if you use this method that you connect the wires back together color RED-RED...BLACK-BLACK.

EHC power interruption problem more than likely.
Loose DIRTY battery connections.
LOOSE battery wire crimps.
Headlight connection or melted (shorting) bulb connector.
Loose connection in harness.
Clean connections and add Dielectric grease.


SEARCH the threads here for additional info... Want some good advice? You need to do your homework and get educated on electrical issues or take it to someone to screw it up.

don't know what happened to all the good information everybody has been giving me it just dissappeared. Anyway finally road it today ,same thing like somebody turned the switch off. But it started up right away but with a big backfire out the exhaust, ran about 500 yards exact same thing this time went about 2 miles the stoped again this time i pulled the seat and saw a green light blinking and a yellow light .This time it would not start but the motor did turn over, unlike the other day when motor wouldn't crank at all. does everybody still feel like it is the cam sensor or is it the crank sensor.I pulled the gas line good stream of gas.

Finally road that K9 today didn't go to far first shut down lasted about 2 secondsstartedup with abig back fire out the exhaust second was the same about 500 yards down the road. then went about 2 miles into town and shut off again for about twenty minutes ,i pulled the seat off there was a green light blinking and a yellow light.
